Rear AC

I was wondering if the "rear Ac" in these vans was really air conditioning or if it was just a fan. If it is AC then would it still work if the front AC does not.

From what I have been able to find out while asking about adding rear A/C to my van,it is in fact A/C run off lines split off the front one.

It's not a stand-alone unit. It requires the front unit to operate. No front AC = No rear AC.

You have an evaporator and fan in the front and one in the rear. They both share the same condensor and compressor. If it' not getting cold in the back then either the evaporator or expansion valve is pluged.

I don't have front AC the front compressor and condensor are not working and have not for a while they are just for looks now. I would like to fix if I could get the parts for cheap.

Parts not cheap. Work definitely not cheap. Have you checked the charge level in the system? All it might need is a recharge.

I had it checked when it went out I need compress and condenser so I have been rolling w/o air for the past 5 years.

If you get it fixed, make sure to replace the accumulator and the expansion tubes on both evaporators as well. They have little screens in them and if you compressor launched debris in the system, you'll get restricted cooling and worse the possibility of eating your replacement compressor.
