93 4.3 CPI to Smallblock V8 TBI

I'll eventually post the whole project under this topic but right now I just have what we did today. Installed the new front diff, all the accessories and slid the subframe back under the van. The new 4" lift tubes worked nice.

Still to do:

Extend steering shaft, 4X4 shifter and tranny shifter.
Rewire for TBI and extend wires that are too short
Cap, rotor and wires
Electric fan?
Bleed brakes
Install radiator, tranny cooler, AC stuff and the rest of the front end
Extend front bumper mount

If the dogs would stay out of my way I might get this done!

Looking good Bill. If you run to Harry's looking for an electric fan...grab 2 from a 3.8 V6 Ford Taurus/Sable/Towncar, one for you and one for me!

Supposedly these are the cat's meow for cooling small blocks. I will be switching back to an electric fan to make room up front.

Will do Dean. If you look at the pic you can see where the clutch fan will now sit. Towards the bottom of the radiator.

Good work, Bill. Funny, the water pump pulley seems to be up higher on my set-up, and that's with a 5" spacer. I guess the big block is sitting up alot higher.
Funny seeing the to-do list. Brings back lotsa memories

Yeah, the Taurus fans are friggin awesome, but be warned they're LOUD. I can hear mine through the wall of the house, that was surprising when I was warming it up to test it out. They pull near 30A continious and the OEM breaker for em is 50A so make sure you've got an alternator up to the task!

I got a fan off ebay last night. I'll be asking later when I recieve it how to wire the thing up.

Please detail the install of this fan. I was looking at something along that line for my 5.3 swap.

(My wife needs all the help she can get with this project!)

The Fan controller I used was a Hayden unit from Orielly auto, PN is 3647. It's about $37 from them, about $10 less from summit but shipping is a killer on the savings. The Taurus fan has a common ground black, the green wire is the low speed and the yellow is the high I'm wanting to say, but try that before you wire it up. You'll also need a 50A fuse/breaker and two 30A relays, the relays are used exclusively for the high speed in paralell and the low speed is controlled by the Hayden controller directly. I took some sheet aluminum and angle iron, then mounted the fan. I didn't have a seal around it, I've got a 6X20 inch section exposed but I havn't had any problems. I also have no A/C, so your milage may vary but it's *always* been cooler even in heat soak conditions.

Garage? Oh the daydreams I have about an actual garage. I just recently made the jump from rock driveway to a carport with rocks under it! If I ever had to rely on playing with cars for a living I would surely start to hate it.
