Windshield Wipers

Hey guys,
just joined this forum and I have a question.

The windshield wipers work when they want to. I mean that they work for about 15 minutes and then shut off. Then after a while they start up again.

I drove home from Metro Airport in Detroit a week ago in the rain and they wouldn't work all the way down I 94. There wasn't much traffic on x-way so that was a bonus. I tried shutting them off and on again and that didn't solve anything. Got to be a problem with the wiper motor I guess, but I just got this van and wondered if anyone else had the same problem?

Is it less costly to get a new motor or new wires etc.

Thanks guys and gals

Happens all the time to these. There's a circuit board on the motor that fails. Most Parts Houses stock it. Only takes a few minutes to install. Motor is probably good. :supz:

Yup, my 94 did the same. Less than $20 at http://www.RockAuto.com.

You can also pull the board out of the motor and resolder the connections that go to the motor it's self. I posted a how-to up about doing it. But I think that was on the old board. Anyways either way it's because the solder joints go bad and it starts shorting out and such. This is also a recall so if you don't want to do it check with a dealership because if this recall work hasn't been done and your not over the mileage limit they should install a new board for you as it's a safety recall ( was causing fires).

My dealer denied any recall on the wiper motor / board but fixed a couple other things I didn't even know or care about. You can give the dealer your vin number and they will tell you any open recalls .

thanks everyone,

I think I'll just go to the parts store and buy the part.
I think its called a wiper motor pulse board and is under 20 bucks.

I can sure see that I'm going to enjoy myself on this board. :bounce:
