Ok, I'm pi$$$$ed!

Went to a car stereo store and saw a head unit (radio/cd player) I like. The printed sign on this Pioneer DEH2000 had an MSRP of $179.00. I also was in need of an antenna and choose an amplified windshield antenna. So far so good, right? I was also told it had a 1 year manufacturers warranty so i had the shop install it.

The dealer did not give me the box but did hand me the instruction manual in a sealed plastic pouch. the first thing I did after getting home was to open the plastic envelope. I was shocked to discover that the warranty sheet indicates that it is a REFURBISHED radio!!! with a 90 day warranty. That's issue #1.

I also went on the Internet to do a bit more research on this unit and lo and behold! the MSRP is $100 and not $179. according to Pioneer's web site. That's issue #2.

I've been had or they made a serious honest mistake. I think I'm justified in asking for my money back and for them to take the radio out of the car and put the old one in.

What would you guys do? (reality check)

Well, if it was advertised "new" and not "refurbished", you probably have a legitimate gripe.

The fact you paid $179 for a $100 unit.... buyer beware. A dealer can pretty much sell something for whatever they want.

Good luck!

The tag said the MSRP was $179. That figure is a bald face lie. I paid somewhat less. There was no other price on the unit.

Yup I would be totally choked as well. I would go and ask for your money back as you thought you were getting a new deck not a rebuilt. As far as the price goes most places have a 30 day price guarantee. where did you buy the radio???

When going back to speak with them, make sure you mention a call to your local district attorney's fraud division.....

Take it back. Tell them that the Better Business Bureau and the local newspaper has been notified, too. And notify the BBB and the newspaper with a copy of the receipt and the printout of the website.

Good news

They exchanged the radio for a new one. I did pay a bit more for it including installation than I would have if I went to Circuit City, but they did a real good job.....

What kind of stereos you folks have in your Astro?

Blaupunkt San Jose MP41, plays MP3 CDs. Got two on closeout in 2003 for my wife and I. Paid about $125 each, retail originally was $325 at the time.

A new one.

I'd give the owner o shot to make it 'right', then the complaints would fly... along with the misrepresentation of the merchandise, a visit to small claims court is called for.

That really sux, Mr Detectorist.

I have a 40watt JVC that Best Buy put in back in '99 or 2000. It cost about $159.00 back then.

Good luck with that, Mr Detectorist. Hope you find some recourse.

OK - You all can laugh on this one - OEM CD unit out of a 2003 Saturn Vue - total cost under $10. Son had to have an after market unit in his car (the Vue). after collecting dust for a couple of years in the closet I decided to see if it would fit in the astro. well with a new connector, a little solder, some heatshrink tubing, a few :drinkers: and a little "field heat and beat to fit" the astro's radio trim panel fit right on - looks almost stock. :muhaha:
