Ok, as if It couldn't get more stressful I recently got a summons to court as a juror. Those of you who don't know my situation, I'm in the proccess of a divorce which I really don't want. I wrote a letter requesting to be excused from jury duty. Has any one esle ever done this? This is what I wrote, please give any usefull advice.

Dear XXXXX,

In response to the summons for jury duty dated August 28, 2008. As much as I am privileged to serve as a juror, I respectfully request to be excused or postponed.
I am currently in the process of divorce (case no. ###) and final court judgment date could be during the scheduled jury duty time. I feel that I am not in the best mental capacity due to the stress of this situation. Also in the proceeding months I will be moving from my present address and it’s not been determined exactly where that will be. My new residence may not be in XXXX County.
Thank you for your time and consideration in this request. If you need to contact me, I can be reached at ###-###-####.

Sincerely,

It just may work, but be prepared to be called in anyway. You can always plead your case in person. Besides, from what I understand, you are part of a pool for a period of time.

Walk in and say that you can't be imparshal in the precedings they have to let you go rather than give grounds for an appeal due to the fact they had a openly predjudiced person on the jury.

My mother did that when she got called to be a jury member for Clifford Olsens parole hearing a few years ago. They just thanked her for her time and let her go.

What always works for me is to go and when the judge asks you if you have any objections to serving on the jury, I smile and tell them "no, but I would like to request that everyone look at me when they are talking so that I can lip-read, because I do have a bit of a hearing loss", you know. I don't think I have had one judge even let me finish that sentence before they kick me out. Everybody whispers in a courtroom... :butthead:

The last time I was summonded to jury duty one of the lawyers ask me if I owned guns. My reply was "You're damn right I own guns". I was dismissed and have never been called since. That was probably 25 years ago. That's fine with me. \:D/
