If you are feeling brave you can buy a rebuild kit for about $40.00. They're not hard to rebuild. \:D/

actually as it turns out it may be the pulley on the PS pump. every time I turn lock to lock or I hit the brake pedal the pulley spins on the pump shaft.
seems no one has ever heard of this happening. I am going to replace the pulley and add a bolt with a lock washer and see if it fixes it.

I have heard of something similar.. A buddy of mine was telling me about a van he had in to his shop. No power brakes or power steering. The PS pump shaft had cracked inside the pully. So the pulley stayed on and looked like it was spinning, but the pump itself wasnt spinning. On the later vans it is a friction fit, there is nothing to bolt on to. Or any keyway actually I dont think either. Maybe you have the same thing happening, or the shaft is too small, or pulley is too big.

Hydro-boost rather than Hydrovac, is the word that you need.

so far I have changed the ps pump, & the pully with brand new parts.
I also changed the hydroboost with a used one from the salvage yard and the problem is still present. This all started after a PS pump blew. Now the
booster could be bad s it came from a salvage yard so on Monday I will call them and see if they have another. As for someone saying I could rebuild mine? where can I buy the kit you spoke of?

I think I remember something about a proper bleed procedure after installing a new pump? Can't remember how it went. From what I am gathering from this you have no brakes at all? If this hydro-boost goes you have nothing at all? Thats pretty scary. I always assumed I'd still have brakes but no assist. Must be vacuum only.

If hydroboost quits you still have brakes. You just won't have power assist.

I have brakes but its like right to the floor. every time I step on the brake pedal the pulley turns on the shaft of the PS pump. Very agravating process of elimination since the haynes manual has nothing at all about this system.

You get a new power steering pump and pulley on and you will be back to 100%. That is the whole problem right there. There is nothing else to diagnose.

I dont think brakes should be to the floor. Sounds like you have air in the brake system. No brake assist gives a very hard pedal. Did you make sure the little valve in the power steering pump was clean and instaleld correctly... O-rings installed and intact?
