Gas Tank Romoval

Post by 2002Safari »

My fuel pump failed at 113,000 miles. I have the tank unbolted and on the ground. I am trying to figure out how to disconnect the plastic hoses from the fuel pump and the metal fuel lines.

Once I get them off, I can then remove the tank from under the Safari.

How do I remove the hoses as they are not the screw on clamps used for rubber hoses?

I called the dealer who said that I needed a Fuel Rail Disconnect tool, so I went to Schucks and $8.65 later I had the tool in my hand.

Hey man,

i did mine few months back, real easy. First siphon the fuel out, undo the straps underneath. Soon as its released and on the floor or a jack etc... u can get access to the plug and fuel lines.

Remember to change the fuel filter too.. and make sure its a OEM grade part like AC Delco or Delphi

You can disconnect the fuel lines from the system before you even drop the tank. The flex hoses that attach to the pump have the same disconnects on their other end. Once you remove the tank's shield, you can see these connectors if you look up between the drive shaft and the tank. If you disconnect the lines here before you drop the tank it makes the job a bit easier.

Also, I've never used a special tool to disconnect the lines. Looking at the connectors you will see two tabs holding each one together. If you wiggle the line and press the tabs down one at a time they will slip under and release the connector.
