That one will work great but wouldn't use the plastic ties to secure to rad. Just build ya one out of some scrap aluminum or some angle.

I definitely plan to fab up a better mount, like seen in many of the posts.

I generally recommend a slightly larger one. The 28,000 GVW is what I like to use. The one you selected will definitely be a great improvement and help make the tranny last a lot longer.

Well, I am concerned with the "thickness" of the next larger one....

I am looking at a Safari, and the grill seems to be "set back" more than an Astro, and it really does not look like I will have room.

I am still shopping for the actual van to buy, but I am lining up parts ahead of time.

I kind of remember being told it isn't good to run tranny fluid too cool.That there is a ideal operating temp.Maybe someone could chime in with comments about that.Not sure if that is correct or not.

I do like a seperate fan for the tranny cooler(the cooler mounted away from the rad or A/C condensor) and a electric fan for the rad.The question I have is does this ,with a cooler fan and electric rad fan,have a effect on the A/C condensor?.

gary i think you are correct on the running too cool but the LPD coolers are designed with a bypass untill the fluid warms up to operating temp then it starts to flow through the cooling fins if i remember correctly

I just bought a Tru-Cool transmission cooler P/N 4589. This cooler is rated at 24,000 GVW, from the good folk at Oregon Performance Transmission yesterday. It needs to get shipped, delayed at the border, all that jazz until I see it. Hopefully in a couple of weeks! LOL
Ebay Item# 170131205258. I priced it out local only to be told $200+ for just the cooler! Anyway I would be REALLY interested to hear about the bypass ability (if it exists), and about optimum transmission fluid temperature.

I guess it does have a bypass - check out the brochure...

I just recently drove out to see the folks in Invermere and the tranny temp went as high as 204 climbing the mountains and sat at about 190 most of the trip. It was fairly warm, and since the engine water temp is about 190 that is where I expect it to be with the stock cooler in the rad.

I am interested in hearing from a tranny guy about optimum tranny fluid temp's too.Got me wondering if along with a temp gage,you could put in line a temp sensor that would control a tranny cooler fan on/off.

Yeah Gary, a temperature switch on a cooling fan would be a great upgrade. I would get one that comes on around 180 - 190 degrees.
