My Safari

Post by kc5gxl »

Hello all;

I hope I have done this right this time, and have some photos of my van here.
This is a 91 Safari that I bought in 93. It had about 60K miles on it when I got it.
It's had 2 reman transmissions and 1 reman 4.3. It has been sitting since 2000,
and has over 300K on it now.

It doesn't look like much at the moment, but I can see it in a few months looking pretty good.

Just can't figure out what it wants to be! :-k

This is the color I am thinking about painting it. Maybe just a shade darker.

Well folks, there it is, in all it's glory! Hopefully, in a few more months,
I can show a mostly finished Safari V-8

Drive safely,

Hello all;

Well it has been quite some time since I have been on this site. Had a change in jobs this year, and had to move to another city for the new job. The teaching gig I had at the local community college ended in May, and finally in August, I found another teaching position in a Junior college a couple of hundred miles north of the old home 20. Haven't done much on the old Safari except to have it moved to my old house. The tow truck driver had the driver's door open when he started to haul it, and sprung it, and bending the outer skin. I think I will just replace the door instead of trying to bang it out. :-({|=

At any rate, that is my story and I am sticking to it! Glad to be back on this site after so long of an absence. Hopefully we'll get a house to live in soon instead of an apartment, and will be able to get the van hauled up here so I can work on it again. I really want to get that little V8 started so I can burn up some streets here in Tyler! LOL. :supz:

Drive safe,

Hey Dan. Been wondering where you've been for some time. Guess I could have at least PM'd ya but glad you checked in.
On that door,,did the same thing backing mine out of the garage years ago. Like a DA, I'm pushing to van outside looking right at the van door but it never clicked there was no way to clear the garage door. One of my not so sharp days after working all night on the motor. :muhaha: That's my story and think I'll stick with it. :muhaha:
Quickest thing to do is trash the old door and be a good time to replace hinge bushinigs before you put the replacment door on.
Good to have you back.

Hey there! I was looking at your front end pics.. was your rad support bolted in or welded in originally from the factory? Mine's a 95 and it was a royal PITA to remove and reinstall and my buddy was telling he did a S10 but it was simply bolted in.

Of course mine was welded in... curious minds want to know. :peep:

Only the top portion of the rad support is bolted on the earlier vans to facilitate engine removal. Newer vans are meant to have the subframes dropped to change the engine. Though GM did sell kits so you could cut the top of the rad support and bolt it back together.
