Hey Jeff,
Need to know if your van is a AWD and if it has a air bag or not.

yes the 89 column will fit & everything will just plug in , but you wont have an air bag anymore .
i've put a 94 column in an 88 van .

i think that the air bag for the astro safari came out in 1994 so 1993 had no air bag

You are correct no air bag. And its 2-wheel drive. Why I ask is my van I have to step on the brakes to get it out of park and did not know if the 89 was like that to. Thanks for the info.

Oh by the way the 89 astro is 2-wheel also.

The only thing you have to worry about is air bags. I doubt either one has an air bag. They're all the same length and the same linkage.

Hummm, now that is kind of interesting. The parts search on car-parts.com shows only 1993 only. When I put a 1989 tilt in my 1985 I had to swap some of the connectors too.Maybe that is why the crosses showed like they did on car-parts.

I have two 93's. A loaded AWD and an empty RWD cargo. Both have air bags. 93 is when they came with them. Along with the electronic transmission. Your 93 didn't originally come with an airbag? The differences you may find besides the airbag and tilt wheel is what stalk they used for the blinkers. Cruise control or not and intermittent wipers or not. That would make for different connectors. If you rely soley on some place like car parts.com your bound to get a lot of wrong answers.

Hey-hey.Now you know we all just try to help out. ](*,) Those cross ref's haven't hurt me yet. #-o :muhaha:

The serach didn't come thru that I posted and it shows all those features on the columns.

Then the search for a 1989 goes to 1991.

Surely the base column will bolt up as it did on my swap.

The car-part searches are based on the same interchange books that J/Y's used with a understanding of the gap's they have.

No air bag that I know of. Far I know it has the original steering wheel on it.

But Gary....over 1/2 of your answers to questions involve telling the person to go to car-parts.com. It's a little annoying. ](*,) We try NOT to be just like the answer sites out here that just tell you to take it to the dealer for the best service.

What he said. :withstupid:

We had another member, don't know if he's still here or not, whose every answer involved going to Autozone.com.
