Reattaching body cladding

Post by Jeeper372 »

Does anyone know the procedure for reattaching the cladding on the lower part of the slider? The piece on my 2003 Astro has come off and I'd like to try to put it back on myself. The dealer won't give me an estimate. Labor is $75/hr. I'm primarily interested in an efficient way of removing the old adhesive tape. I've been using a heat gun and a putty knife but that's really slow going. Also is there something I can use to remove the remaining adhesive after the tape is gone? Thanks in advance for any advice.

That double sided tape is a pain in the rump to remove. I did the same as you, heat and patience to get the majority of it off. I then used Goo Gone to take the remaining adhesive off. Worked pretty good even though I was only removing the ASTROAWD emblems.

they are called molding adhesive and stripe removal wheels...

many companies make them....

3M makes them, Norton makes them.. and I'm sure some other 'no-name' companies do also. It's a large (4") round eraser looking thing... goes on the end of your drill .... buffer. grinder.. whatever... they have a max rpm speed so pay attention to that... you use the narrow end .. just so ya know.. lol
