Dang teenage drivers!!

Post by trybe13 »

Yesterday morning, I'm lying in bed deep in REM sleep when I hear someone pounding on my door like they're the police. I answer the door and to my surprise it IS the police.
"Sorry to wake you sir, but is that your van that is parked in front of your house?"
"Yeah, why?" (I already knew the answer ](*,) ) "Sorry to inform you that your neighbor has run into it."

The teenage granddaughter of my elderly neighbors decided that she was going to forget how to cut the wheel while backing out of the driveway and back into my ride with her new Mustang. I wasn't upset that the accident happened because I knew that the grandfather had put full coverage on her Stang, and if all else failed I have full coverage on mine. The thing that pissed me off was how they tried to turn the whole thing around on me. "Well, is it ok for him to park across the street directly in front of our driveway?" What the?!?!?!? #-o Pretty sad how quickly people show their true colors when it comes to money.
Anyway, looks like this is a blessing in disguise because I get a new paint job and there were a few flaws that will get taken care of now. \:D/

Doh!

Had some teens try that when my wife's Ranger got hit.

Kid to cop, "Oh, she was parked way out in the middle of the road."

Me, "Um, look at the passenger side tires. You don't wear the side walls away like that parking away from the curb."

Cop, "You hit a parked car, you're at fault.

Hope your van gets fixed up right.

Damn ! Does that Stang have a lift in it,looks to have gotten you about mid way up :yikes: Glad to see there appears to be minimal metal damage.

And your right, as soon as money is involved people start looking for excuses to justify their actions. Good luck with the repair James let us know how it turns out.

That stinks. Sorry to hear about the accident. I like when people question the parked car as if it could be at fault. Even if your parked illegaly it doesn't give someone the right to drive into it.

sheesh that bites. could have been much worse though. I've been on both sides of that equation, back into another vehicle before, and been backed into. grocery delivery truck backed into a truck of mine years back, ripped a gash through the quarter panel.
People's true sense of ethics surface at times like this don't they. Teenagers, for the most part have none.
glad it wasn't worse, and you weren't in it Trybe

[edit] wait...Trybe do you not have kids of your own???? If not you should. it will give you a whole new perspetive.

Yes Zam, the Stang is lifted in the rear. And it's a beautiful car too.

Dune, if it had been one of my guitars I would have reacted the same way. It's a material thing that can be replaced. That's what insurance is for!

Kings X, It wasn't the teen trying to redirect blame, it was the grandmother. #-o
And the teens I'm raising are not perfect, but they have been raised to live out these two instructions as best they can:
1. Love the Lord God with all your heart, soul, and mind.
2. Love your neighbor as yourself.
If we would all try to at least live out #2 we would be sooo much better off!

Lifted, No estimate yet. I should know more by the end of the week. I couldn't move forward until today when I could finally get my hands on a copy of the police report. I did talk to a couple of shops today, but am stuck in limbo until I know how their insurance is going to proceed.

The teen was cited for improper backing. She says she was watching a different car travel down the side street and wasn't paying attention to what she was doing. Well after being cited and rates going up for her grandfather, I sure hope she learned something because it is too expensive a lesson not to!!

Thanks for all the concern guys. Even though I'm not as active as I used to be, this still feels like family to me.
God bless you all.

Oh and finally, Petey glad to know that you "almost" cried. Yeah right!! We know you put on your favorite dress, jumped on the bike; rifle in tow, and rode around the foothills of town wailing like a banshee!! :vom:

James that sucks. But, at least it wasn't a hit and run. It sounds like you're taking it very well. Can the repair be done by the same shop that painted the van before? Or was that in PA?
