Front Wipers Not Working (Mostly)

Post by Rileysowner »

Posting from my PDA.

Our front wipers are not working except occasionally on high were thry will run, but then occasionally stop wherever they are for no apparent reason only to start after an apparently random amountt of time. We still have to drive home in a snow rain mix . . . not something I am looking forward to.

HELP!

Ok. That is the board where the wiper motor is (not that I know where the wiper motor is) :) I will have to have a look at it tomorrow, and do a little soldering. Thank to God when we left London the wipers started to work on high, and kept working (something they had not done for 3 hours or so before) the whole way. I'm glad it is an easy fix. Time to do some searching on the board.

Do I need to remove the motor to get out the board?

Nope. Just undo the bolt holding the cover in place.

Ok, I have the cover off, does the board come out, or will I need to solder it while it is in the van? It had some water in it, so I will have to dry it out well also.

I am still wondering if I can get the board out of or off the motor. I got the cover off, but the board seems to be attached somewhere that I can't see.

Ok. Maybe I will check with the local dealer. I'm still curious if the board will come out or if it has to be soldered attached to the motor?

Mine just pulled off. There are connectors on it that attach to the motor. I was abel to just pull straight back and it popped off.

For the issue with it being full of water. Mine was too. So I made a gasket for the cover using some RTV

Someone had done that with mine as well. It was a real pull to get the cover off. As for the board, it wouldn't move for me. Of course it was cold and windy while I was trying and I could barely feel my fingers at that point, so who knows, it might just have been me.

I thought of doing the dealer, but we have had snow/rain pretty much every day, and it might be a while before the dealer can get to it. I need the van tomorrow and Saturday, so it needs to be fixed. However, I can't seem to get the board out. Help would be much appreciated.

When you say it just pulled out, do you mean with a fair amount of force or very easily.

I can't get mine to budge. Part of the problem may be the way it was sealed with black RTV which made taking the cover off very difficult. Part of it may be that I am not wanting to break the board and am not sure how or where it is attached to the motor.

Here are two pics:
