High beams not working...dangit

Post by justice »

Took the wifes 95 Safari in for safety inspection, its not passing the pre inspection because the highbeams are not working. So I started looking into the problem and have discovered the that the switch and actuator rod are fine, but the assembly in the steering column is broken. So i'm going to have to put it in the shop to get that and the turn signals repaired, and then hope it passes emissions.

These are not expenses that I needed right now with the wife trying to spend all our money on christmas... ](*,)

How often do you have to bring your vehicle in for inspections down there in the o'l Lone star State? or does it vary depending on where in the state you live like it does up here in Ontario?

safety inspections are yearly here in Texas, but depending where you live in the state effects wheater or not you have to do emissions testing as well.

For example, Harris County had emmission testing 2 years before FT Bend County (where I live, which is right next to Harris)

IN Oklahoma where my grandmother lives, they dont have the safety inspections at all...

Thankfully we only have the emissions testing every 2 yrs depending on where you live in Ont, I'm very surprised our Gov't hasn't jumped on the yearly veh inspection scam, but I'm sure my surprise won't last too much longer, lol

personally, i think mandatory safety inspections should be done up here in Ontario every two years and the emissions testing be tossed out the window (or at the very most every 4 yrs).

there are more vehicles on the road that are a life and death concern NOW with no brakes, bad balljoints or tierods or tires.. than running a little dirty which 'may' kill us all in 100 years :-s

that sucks before Christmas justice

Well I do agree that if there were going to be one or the other I would take the safety inspections over the emissions any day, it isn't that I don't like clean air but It's in the implementation of the system, the Gov't is making a killing off the clean air scam and if they got into the safety inspections end of it then that would eventually turn into a scam like the drive clean program did,
just my humble opinion, lol

replaced and adjusted dimmer, replaced turnsignal switch (had been needing to have that done) fix washer/wiper lever and saftey inspection + emissions testing...$370

have I mentioned that I really did not need an expense like this right now?

I asked the shop if they could put a big red bow on the front of the van so I could tell the wife, "merry christmas, i got your van fixed"

:-({|=

the dimmer is under the dash panel beneath the steering column and is actuated by a long rod that runs under the column and is connected to the turn signal switch actuator. and the turn signal assembly is n the steering column and requires talking the column apart..

Lot of labor invloved.

you just have to change the switch at the end of the rod? i have done that. hardest thing i thought was getting the hole lined up and the little screw in...
