NP136 operation

Hi

My 1999 AWD has come to an end. The service AWD light is on all the time and i can not get it to reset any more. I don't have the money to spend on much replacment and I really can't even find anyone to check the code for me.

In the mean time I have been wanting to be able to enage the 4wd with a switch. I pulled the heavy duty 2 wire plug off motor on the transfer case and tested and I am not getting any voltage after cycling the key. I am thinking of a way to apply voltage to this motor to make the 4wd lock and then unlock with a switch possibly. If anyone else has any ideas about it chime in. I would also like a nice schematic as well if anyone had one. I got a manual form the library once but there is nothing on the AWD part of the system.

Here is the picture of the plug I am talking about. I am assuming it gets 12 volts by the size of the wires and the plug.

Heres a picture of the motor I am talking about.

I have some ideas from mild to wild on how to make this work based on some work I did on my friends older Ford Explorer.

From what guys on here have had for problems, the servo motor is the most likely culprit. I would think you could throw 12 volts on the motor plug and see if it engages. sounds like you have nothing to lose.

If you can get it scanned I will post the documentation of what the code is, and diagnostic procedures for you.

head to AutoZone or the like, free scanning. Later, get a ScanGaugeII and be able to scan any time you want.

ScanGuage FTW! I love mine can you tell :D right now while my dash lights are not working I've been using mine as a speedo at night.

When I had it scanned at Autozone they did not find a code for it. My local mechanic "could try" for me for 60$ but he says he doesn't think it reads the TCCM. I kow I could goto the dealer but thats adding up the cost already.

So I am thinking the operation is somewhat 2wd until the encoders see slip then the motor engages and its 4wd 50/50 split?

Can you take the motor off with out removing the front driveshaft? I guess since I dont have AWD I can shelve the front shaft anyway.

My only concern is if I put voltage to it I will not able to disenage the transfer case later on. I am not sure how the motor "reverses" it self but I have some ideas after working on a Explorer motor before.

If someone felt real frisky maybe they could report back what readings you get from that plug when the key is powered on if any.

If I remember correctly, reading the TCCM will need to be done on a high dollar scanner. The local dealer can definitely do it. Autozone can not.
