Window Tint suggestions (what is factory %?)

Hi Everyone!

I have the factory window tint and it is very nice but I want to go darker. Is the factory window tint 35% already?
For the gurus out there, if I put another 35% aftermarket tint on top what % might I get? Again I have factory window tint so this is tint in the window (yahoo!).

Also anyone try these cheap $20-30 ebay stores that cut tint and ship?

If you haven't done tint before and this is your first time, it will be your last. Your going to find it's better to hire the job out to a detail shop. I'm guessing your talking about all the way around, right ? If so, a big job and lots of time.

The place that I had my tint done said that the factory tint is around 20% on the back windows. So if you put another layer of say 20% on top of the factory tint, you would end up with about 4%, which is considered limo tint. Hopefully that helps.

Hi guys! Thanks for the post.
I have done tint before and I admit not so fun if not done right but for me the trouble was cutting it. So these ebay ones are pre-cut. I do not mind it flaking off in two-three years ... I can do it again then Local cost is $200 for rear hatch and two windows (I need another two windows, the middle done) and that is before tax.

Factory are 20%!? No way ... they seem to let in a lot more light than that.

yes sir, factory is approx. 20%. i would shy away from the e bay stuff....they probably use inferior product......do it once and do it right...good tint will outlast the life of the vehicle easily. it's easy enough to cut on our windows....just remember to shrink it. if you want pre cut just hit up some local shops and ask if they use a plotter and if they can give you pre cut pieces.

my second job is at a window tint/auto accessories business, 20% is what we use to match up factory tint, it matches up nicely...

My buddy Craig is one of the top tinters in BC.
Give me a call & i'll give you more details.

you know craig? i've been trying to find his # for a while. i can vouch for his work. used to send him a lot of business back in the day, until he shut shop in surrey and moved out further somewhere. i need to get back in touch with him........the regular guy i used for the past few years has been missing in action somewhere..... ....literally...

in reality...if u want to do the tint yourself.....an astro is probably one of the easiest vehicles to do.....large flat windows......they're kinda hard to f*** up.......
