Installed a new head unit and came up with an idea

Post by astrogus »

I came up with a clever idea in my opinion lol and thought i would share it with you guys and gals. I just installed a new Pioneer head unit yesterday in my 97 Astro. I had the stock delco unit that didnt have the cd player built in, It has it underneath the radio. After installing the new Pionner unit i didnt want the orginal cd player unit in there anymore and i also didnt want an emoty hole. So i came up with the idea of taking the face off the old cd player as well as the internals, Poping the top off the shell and spraying some adhesive and carpeting the inside then reinstalling it. It came out really nice and my opinion and cheap and now gives me a lil storage area, Heres a pic.

Looks kinda like the vans that never had the CD player located there. Carpet do a good job keeping stuff from sliding around?

very slick! That was a good idea indeed.
'89 Astro, 4.3L, TBI. Minor intake and exhaust mods. Rebuilt 700R4 trans (by me). Corvette servo, 0.5" boost valve, police grade 1-2 accumulator spring (shifts fast and solid). B&M stacked plate trans cooler. Bilstein shocks. Belltech sway bars front and back. New head unit, speakers and subwoofer. Needs paint and a new headliner.

name's Steve
I can't remember all I've forgotten about that....

G.M. sells just the pocket insert if you want the easy way out. They used it in the base and cargo vans. Cost about $5.00
