ASV Listing in Wikipedia

Post by mdmead »

I'm not sure how many of you have looked at Wikipedia, but there is a listing for our vans. No surprise there...

Down the page there is a listing of Astro/Safari links. ASV is sometimes there... And many times not...

Someone keeps going in and deleting our ASV entry. Worse, at times the listing is there, but the link goes to AS. (By the way, did you know that astrosafarivan.com also goes to AS?)

I think it is easy to figure out who is doing this so I don't need to point a finger and name a name.

I've tried adding ASV back. I've tried using the same tactics that are being used against us. The bottom line is I can't be on this 100%.

So here's what I'm asking... for many of you to try and check the Wikipedia entry every time you think about it and if you see a problem with our entry... (click it to be sure it works...) fix it. And hey, maybe post in this thread that it was again tampered with.

Here is the link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Astro

(To modify, you just click the 'edit' icon near the "External Links" section. Make your change, 'Save Page', etc., etc.)

And no, I'm not suggesting anyone tamper with the AS entry. In fact, please don't.

Stooping to the level of those who delete our site makes us no better than they are. I think the better approach is to just ensure we stay on there. I don't care that AS exists, but I do want people to know it isn't the only site with a wealth of knowledge. (And I'd argue there is better knowledge base here... but I think people can figure that out for themselves if they find their way here.)

I friend sent me a link to that other site once because he said there was a post about my van in a magazine. When i got there all I saw was a caption that said rule such and such had been broken and the link was deleted. Too many rules in life already. Not impressed. Haven't been back.

Ha! Thats too bad.

Oh well. Everything I need to know or share and everyone I need to talk to is here. I want to simplify my life, not complicate it with redundant web forums.

That's pretty sleezy if that is what is happening. I've never been to AS untill recently yet I'm labeled as a pioneer. I wound up starting sh*t there without even trying. Oh well. I can't seem to stop myself from posting occasionally now though. I see someone needing info and I just have to answer. lol. I've even answered "I have a whole write up about that but I can tell you where". Stupid. We're called the good ole' boys club at AS. I don't even know what the hell that means!

Yeah, it was one thing when ASV was deleted. Not nice, but obvious. The real sleeze for me was when ASV was listed but the link went to AS (using astrosafarivan.com so it wasn't obvious). This stuff has been going on for a year or more.

lockdoc wrote:We're called the good ole' boys club at AS. I don't even know what the hell that means!
I don't get this at all. I have never seen anyone here at ASV who doesn't welcome newcomers with open arms. I don't see any 'superiority' trips with members here. If you come here with questions, great, hopefully someone has the answers. If you come here with knowledge, awesome, share it and we all learn! (And yes, if you come here to be an @ss, you will be called on it.)

ASV is a second family in my life. Yeah, we have occassional 'issues' like real families, but overall they dynamics here are pretty darn good. (Better than some real families for sure! :muhaha: )

Thanks for bringing this to our members attention Matt.

Their "old boys club" comment is not surprising seeing how it comes from disgruntled former members of ASV.

The only other thing I'll add is that the ADMIN & Mod's at A.S need to get a life and stop worrying about ASV and concentrate instead on not pissing their own members off with their "McCarthy like" linking rules, nobody is fooled with what they are really trying to do [-X

The truth always comes out in the end...And I'll leave it at that.

Yeah, that cracks me up. (Shhh, if we don't let them link to it, they'll never know its out there! :-$) Its the frikin world wide web for crying out loud.

And furthermore, I must say that for an "Old Boys Club", you all were certainly accepting of this noob when I should up with a bunch of off the wall wide eyed, obnoxious, rapid fire questions.

I had been posting on the other board as well as this one. Thager and I started to question the rules on posting links to this forum for answers to questions. He got banned off the board and labled a site pest over there. It was acutally very funny. I am sure that I am close to a ban on the other board just for posting up the truth.

It is pretty bad when the mods of a forum start name calling and threatening members on the forum instead of being polite on the forum. They have lost all credibility to me. They claim that this board is just full of abusive posters that do nothing but threaten and call names and abuse new members. I have never seen that myself and consider a great many members on this board friends even thou I have never met most of them. I wouldn't hesitate to lend anyone here a hand if asked. Like others have said its more of a family here some of us have been here for a very long time.

I think you can but I would recommend AGAINST stooping to the same behavior. We are much better than them and those who want or need the correct Astro/Safari info, come here eventually. :supz:
