ok i have a 95 AWD the van has the normal 95 rough idle but for the past week it has been very hard to start and now for the past 2 days it will not start unless i spray some starting fluid down the air tube. once started it runs fine but if i shut it off for about 1 hour it will not start again without the starting fluid. is this the spyder that has craped out on me?

I'd check fuel pressure first since it seems to be such a common problem on these vans i replaced my pump before it died. My remote starter had to make 2 attemps before it would start and i had to crank it multiple times before it would start after i replaced the pump fires right away

it can still be the fuel pump even tho once started with the starting fluid it runs fine... i was always thought that if a fuel pump died it would not supply fuel at all...

Put a pressure gauge on it and let it sit. Watch for the pressure to drop. If the pressure is too low to begin with then the pump is probably ready to die. If the pressure drops fairly quickly then your regulator is probably leaking. \:D/

Like the others, I suggest it's a fuel pump. Autozone rents the gauge for free and it's easy to use. This will tell you for sure.

If it is the pump, it's at least easier to replace then the spider even if not any cheaper.

ok after 1 hour my fuel pressure dropped 10psi.......i also just got done talking to a bud of mine who worked for chevy and he says fuel pump. i do not have enuff pressure on startup. i have to have over 62psi to start but the van will run on 50psi all day long with no problem. can anyone back this statement up?

When you turn the key to the run position you should hear the fuel pump run for about two seconds. That pressurizes the system for starting. Bleeding down is not unusual for an old pump. Your bud is correct. Try turning the key to the run position an waiting a few seconds for the system to pressurize before you try starting it. If that doesn't work then it's time for a new pump. \:D/

Don`t buy a crappy Fuel Pump from AutoZone either...... AC DELCO Only.

Unless you enjoy playin` "Russian Roulette" and getting yourself left stranded by a cheap fp that will take a dump prematurely.

And guys, change your fuel filters every 25k and your Fuel pumps at 100k regardless, because I fix soo many vehicles a month, dragged off the freeway here with bad fuel pumps. At a cost between $500 and 1k with the tow costs..... and pissed off people also.

And If you have to buy a fuel spider, get the UPDATED version with the Electronic Injectors rather than pressure fed, from the GM dealer.
