How to upgrade over head console

Post by astromaddox »

Hi All just need some advice please.

I want to upgrade my 96 console to a 2000 one as they have the
Direction of travel (compass)
Temperature (C/F)
Average speed (Kph/Mph)
Current fuel consumption
Average fuel consumption (mpg/litres per KM)
Fuel used (gallon/litre)
Fuel remaining/range .

Can this be done, has anyone already done this and how hard is it to do.

thanks for you help in advance

PS I cant believe ive been a member for just under 2 years and this is my first post.

Welcome to the board. I do not know the answer to your question, but I think someone will chime in. Again Welcome, Jim

Yes you can. Just need to run one wire up to the console from the diagnostic connector. Its the data line.

OK That's good to know, but which one is the data line? I didn't know the newer vans overhead would supply so much info. I might look into doing this.

On the console it is a yellow wire, Position H on the connector. Your van wont have it there, so you need so splice a wire on to it and take it down to the diagnostic connector Purple wire position 2.

I so badly have been wanting to do this upgrade. I finally bought the correct console on ebay, Scott graciously posted the "how-to" and I have sat on my butt and haven't yet begun to get it done. I wish you lived closer and we could double up our efforts on both of our vans. I'm such a slug! ](*,)

I've always wanted the compass and computer too. Anyone know how it costs at the dealer? Please keep us posted on your progress.

My Astro is a '98 so I already have an overhead console with a compass and temp, but by updating to the newer style, I gain mpg, etc.

I'm home, out-of-work and I already own the upgraded console. This is the perfect time to do this, no excuses.

So let me get this straight, I connect the purple wire, position 2 to the yellow, position H and that's it?
