Remote Starters

Post by 1Gary »

Really don't know anything about remote starters. So do aftermarket remote starters have sensors that would shutdown a engine if there was a coolant or oil leak that happened??.

Some of the nicer units have "fail safes" built in...they actually monitor your oil/battery info and will shutdown or cease attempting to start your vehicle if a number is out of range. The cheapies don't do this...get a good one. As for coolant monitoring, I don't think any of them are that smart...maybe factory-installed units. Not sure about that.

You could rig a pressure switch on the oil (our vans already have one that you may be able to tap into) and you could retrofit a coolant level sensor or temp sensor and have them open relays to the ignition if there was a problem. Seems like a lot of trouble, if I were that worried, I'd skip the remote start.
