91 lumina apv

Post by coolen »

Good day to all!

I was playing around with a friend of mine's van today, it's a 91 lumina apv, and i found play on the drivers side bearing/hub-but nothing on the passenger side jacked up. But here's the thing; if i grab the tire at 12 and push and pull in and out, it makes a clunk. it does not do this jacked up. the only thing i can figure is the bearing, but there is no play when it's jacked up. i just want to be sure before i tell him to buy 2 bearing assemblies. any suggestions?

Thanks

It may not be just the wheel bearing. It may be the ball joints or other suspension components or the CV joint itself.

i can't see any play in the ball joint. and i can only make it clunk when the weight of the van is on the tire. it's like i can pull the tire in and out enough to make a clunk when i grab it at 12 oclock. (not jacked up). but once jacked up there's no issue. i'm confused......

This could be nothing more than normal play in the cv joints and axle assembly. When the car is jacked up these parts are in a different position.

Jack it up under the control arm so the suspension is in the same position as with it on the ground. The reason for no noticeable play when jacked up is the cv shaft may be stretching enough to take up the play.
