4l60e

Post by leadtrombone »

OK the 4l60e that is in the safari/astro is the same as a 4l60e in a ....... S10, Blazer, ...??

How about the 4l60e that would be in a car. Example being in Germany i have access to lots of used Opel's (GM Subsidiary) and many of those use the 4l60. Is the only issue the bell housing or are the gear ratios different as well...

OH and lockdoc... where did you go to get your parts and about how much did you spend on your rebuild...

Yes the 4L60E is the same across many vehicles. Main things that change are the number of disks in the clutch pack, servo, and tail housing. The gears should be the same. Which Opels had the 4L60E?

I know several people have claimed to have good service from Oregon Performance Transmission.

any advice on PATC performance... ?

Looking at my options. Either going to get a used tranny and rebuild at leisure then swap, or order a completly built one. This place PATC http://www.transmissioncenter.com/PATC_ ... ce%20Chart seems to have a pretty beefed uptranny for just a tik over 2grand. Still feeling out options.

price of parts and time to do it VS cost of tranny and shipping and done with warranty... hmm

I think that most all of the RWD opels that were automatics had the 4l60... That said automatics are the hard to find option in europe...

The 4L60E is the same basically across the board but they are year specific also. There is the 93-94. Then the 95. The 96.....
After 96 I'm not sure which ones cross with each other.

I purchased my parts from many different vendors. Whichever had the parts I wanted the cheapest. The most I ever spent was about $600 total and it was pretty bad ass. If you want a good package right out of the gate I recommend http://www.700r4l60e.com.

ok. so i have a line on a 4l60e from a late model blazer..

60 bucks or so. Could be in good shape ( or maybe not.. came out of a wrecked vehicle).

I am thinking. even if i have to take my time an rebuilt it (or the one in my van at the moment after a swap and finding out the new on is not so good) that it is too good of a deal to pass up.

The questions are... How can i tell what version of the tranny it is? I think it is out of a 98 or 99 year blazer. But the vehicle has already been crushed so i can't check. Is the a code/number that would confirm that it is the proper version for my 99Safari..

If it is 97 (maybe 96) and newer it will be a 2 piece trans. The bell housing is removable on these newer models. Other than that I don't know how to tell.

On the valve body there is usually a date cast on it.

My understanding is it will work. If there is any difference at all, it is minor or insignificant. Plus you always have the original to swap parts from if needed to make fit. I say go for it!
To confirm, call GM and see what the parts guy says. I bet they are the same part numbers barring 2wd vs 4wd.

I would imagine that the donor trans would be OK as well. The majority of Blazers are 4WD though. If so it will not work unless you take the trans apart and swap the output shaft and tail housing.

the donor blazer was a 2wd model.

Once i get the money back from my school that they owe me i am going to pick it up. I think i will do a strait swap. see if things are better. then look at slowly rebuilding the one in the van now.

Maybe i will try to beef it up so i can do some decent towing with it.
