On the 94 Lt I have the rad out and w/p.I am thinking of buying Prestone(sp)
anti-freeze which is what I have used for yrs.But on the other hand I used Fram oil filters for yrs and I have since changed that because of reports that came out of a thread here.So please any input would be appreciated.I need to buy it before Sat when I will be putting it back together.

Prestone regular green anti-freeze is perfect for the job. Mix it 70/30 and you are good to go.

Does Prestone still offer a Green product anymore?

I used a product a few years ago, it was called Water Wetter.
The idea was it helped lubricate and removed even more oxygen from the water than just the recommended 50/50 anti-freeze to water mix.
Less oxygen creates a higher boiling point.
By removing oxygen, the water molicules tighten up and this helps the water act as a better heat-sink. That's there thiery anyway.
It took longer for the engine to get up to operating temperature, but it reduced the overall operating temperature of a bbc by about 10-15 degrees fahrenheit, with no ill effects to the aluminium parts.
I just can't find anyone who sells it anymore.

I went to Walmart the other day to get antifreeze, because I'm planning a flush and I didn't see any green stuff. Just dexcrap and universal. Funny, I could swear they had some a few months ago. The universal stuff is just as good though right?

I haven't got it yet,Still looking things over to see if it is solved with the leak.Prestone is looking like what I will be.

The Prestone universal stuff says it contains some ethylene glycol. It looks clear. What exactly makes it universal?

I hear that diesel trucks will take ethylene glycol based coolant ONLY. Wonder what the reason is for that.

I flushed out all my old fluid today and filled up with water. I'll dump it all out again in a few days and then add the coolant. Any information would be helpful!

Look for coolant that meets ASTM D6210 standards.

This is the stuff I picked up at Walmart ($15). The label said it met ASTM D3306 and D4985 standards, but not D6210. It also claims to work in any make/model of vehicle, and that you can also mix it with anything. It is dyed green.

But it was late, so I poured it in anyways. It's ethylene glycol based. It contains 2-ethyl-hexanoic acid, which is a long-life organic acid (OAT) corrosion inhibitor. There was no mention of silicates, so it may not even be a hybrid formula (G-05 or HOAT). I hope it's not as bad as Dexcool.
