My Hemi Dodge - Built From the Ground Up!

Post by mdmead »

OK, so you wonder why my van is up on jack stands and hasn't been worked on in a couple of years...

No, this isn't really the reason...

A local automotive forum I hang out on just started a model building contest. The subject was 'muscle car'. I hadn't built a model in more than 10 years, but I had been looking for an excuse to jump back in. This was it!

Here was my choice.

Here is the build.

Now I know a lot of guys build and detail models 100 times better than mine, and I'm in awe of them. But I'm proud of this one. It's the best I've ever done! (It didn't hurt that this is one well designed kit.)

(By the way, I won the contest, but just barely. The winner picks the next contest. The build period is 3 months and the next subject is 'a pickup'. I've think I know what I'm going to build... and it is another Dodge!)

Sweet, I use to build models about 6-7yrs ago, nothing fancy but it was an enjoyable hobby. I've got a pick up sitting downstairs that I should get back to, maybe this thread will give me the needed motivation, thanks Matt and nice job :supz:

Very nice! But c'mon, no spark plug wires? Get some sewing thread and dab the ends in glue. Easy and makes all the difference.

Yeah, and so important with the hemi too!

Part of the problem was I ran out of time. This being the first contest, we ended up with a 2 month build period so we could get on a regular quarterly schedule. Due to other things going on, I was actually scrambling to finish this at the last minute. (I finished up at 10pm on the last day and didn't get my pics taken and posted until midnight.) The other issue is... I thought to do it right I should poke some holes for the thread or whatever to push down into. I haven't figured out what I'm going to use to make the very small holes. Maybe just a hot needle? I can still go back and add them.

(Sounds like we have a detail builder amongst us, eh Bill?....) :muhaha:

Exactly! LOL It just stuck out. Just be warned, if you do install them I'll be checking the firing order!

I used to build a lot when I was younger. The ones I still had were destroyed by my boys when they were little. Oh well. Hope they had fun with them at least. We have a few around that we built together when they were younger.
