greetings forum members. Currently driving a 1987 safari with a recently parked 96 safari (due to failed power steering pump) My van history includes 3 caravans (I'm a slow learner) and a savana conversion van with a 350 which I love for towing my boat, camper or long haul vacations. The savana has seen both oceans (with the camper in tow) and although it's older seems to be delivering an excellent value for the size of the investment.
Could not find a replacement for the 96 except for another safarai. Just was nothing out there that would tow, carry 4 teenagers, take the dog to the park daily, and/or handle teenage drivers, carry plywood or cement etc etc. Just a great all purpose vehicle. I don't have any great respect for the engineering tho'. guzzles fuel, feeble electrics/ignition/fan motor resistors .... still ..... had to buy another one in spite of the weaknesses because there is just no alternative. The closest competition was an extended cab pick up and that is not happening for my purchase price of 1200 canadian
(did cost another 12 to put it on the road tho ...hidden repairs)
Tensioner just flew apart and I found the forum looking for hints ....looks like a great site and maybe ...just maybe ... I'll find the inspiration here to tackle the pump on the 96.
Cheers
