I'm not sure if I'm concerned or not...many of the parts I buy are from elsewhere anyway

China hasn't bought GM. One of the Chinese automakers has bought a $500 million dollar stake in GM, makes sense if you are a Chinese automaker. GM is the largest importer of vehicles into China, as well as one of the largest manufacturers in China. That was one thing that G. Richard "Rick" Wagoner did, he saw that one coming. Unfortunately for him he did not see Obama coming...

I think this is a sign of things to come.
The US owes China over 4 trillion dollars in loans, plus interest.
If the US Government is going to involve themselves with private business in the form of subsidies in todays economy, they are going to lose more and more money.
Let private companies fall where they may. If you are a strong well run company you will survive without being subsidized. Poorly run companies will fail and be resurected as new companies based on the need for those companies.

Agreed Peter. To quote Margret Thatcher, the problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money. I don't think it is a sign of what is to come, I think it is sign of what is here. What happens in the next two years is likely to seal the fate of the U.S. I think the members on this site are becoming a rare breed these days. Everyone here is a can do guy or gal, an attribute that I highly admire
remark, I'm not sure how you parse a Chinese automaker from a totalitarian Chinese government. True, the Chinese have embraced a quasi capitalist economy in restricted zones to keep their economy afloat (see Margret's quote above), but I don't think for a second that the Chinese government wasn't behind this.
Now that brings an amusing scenario to mind...imagine the UAW trying to negotiate with the Chicoms.
