ABS noise ---- Normal??

Post by leadtrombone »

So the snow has arrived and the roads are slick...... and gushy. So i get to use my ABS ( \:D/ ... I think ). When the abs system activates it really sounds like a (waahhgh) pump going on and i can feel the pedal pulse (and can even push it to the floor as i am absing it).

I just want to know if you guys get a lot of noise during abs stopping...

I was driving the work van ( a brand new opel) and there is no "pump" sound on that when the abs kicks in. Just the pedal pulse and such.

thoughts.

I get a groaning sound and vibration in the pedal as the abs pump feathers the brake pressure.

my 99 sounds like the world is coming to an end. It scared my wife the first time it went on. The pedal jumping is normal on all systems the newer systems are better than the systems put on the astrovans and are quieter.

the rear abs on my '89 almost sounds like someone is rapidly beating on the van with a rubber mallet.
