2000 White Astro AWD, stock LS. Bought in 2001, was ex-rental from Enterprise. It had 25k miles and bought it for $16K out the door. It now has 192k miles. If they were still making the Safari/Astro, I'd buy a 2011.

I've been familiar with Overland for many years and am now looking forward to many mods. You see I've been suggesting to the wife that we should start looking for a suitable replacement for the Astro. She says that there is no way, seeing that Astro is still running strong. (She fell right into my trap.) I 'compromised' by suggesting a slow but substantial upgrade program. She went for it.

Mods that I'm contemplating? Overland 2" lift, 235R75/15s on stock rims, 3.73s, G80 locker, freer exhaust, tow system, interior and exterior re-hab to name a few.

One question here, why did they stop making them?

First off,Welcome to the site.I would think why GM doesn't make Astro's anymore would be as varied as the person answering the question. From what I read it was crash tests and GM not willing to tool up for that with side air bags and alike.I am sure other will chime in with more info.

We have a British member living in your area.He is SoCalli V8.Might want to look him up on face book.He is a expert in these vans and has done a lot on his.

Hang out, hope you enjoy your stay. :)

Welcome Derek. I heard or maybe read somewhere that GM stopped making the Astro/Safari because of sales dropping off. It looks like Ford was paying attention. They have filled that slot with a similiar sized van called the Transit.
