So I have my 95 Astro with the 4.3 Vortec in it. My friend blew up his 4.3 Vortec in his 96 S-10 blazer. Can I take the motor out of my Astro and it fit in his blazer? will it bolt up to the tranny of his blazer or will that have to come out of my Astro too?
Thanks,
Bill

Bill as you know the 95 was a transition yr so the computer controls would be a issue. As far as I know, the basic engine should be the same as far as bolting up.

Yeah-I checked on :

www.car-part.com

And they listed Astro engines as a swap 1996 and later.Guess that would be because of what is said about the computer controls.Should bolt up.

The actual engine block should physically fit. The tranny isnt where the problem will arise, the cylinder heads/intake manifolds is.
As said the computers are not the same, and in fact the whole fueling system will be different.

If you want to bolt the 96 fuel system to the 95 engine, you will soon find out the intake manifolds have a different bolting pattern.
95 heads have 12 bolts holding the intake on. 96 heads only have 8 bolts doing that.
Any of these heads will bolt to any 4.3 block though. You will need to do a lot of mixing and matching of parts, but anything is possible, just not always easy.....
