Under the hood is a fuse box. Located the "ATC" fuse. It will be a 20 amp one. Pull the fuse and the AWD will be disabled.

Is that also the fuse for the dash lights?

Any purpose to do this? 1 or 2 mpg I'm guessing at best?

The reason for doing this on the 1999 - 2005 AWD's is to get 2WD only. This can be done if running the donut spare up front or if you are trying to diagnose a driveline vibration. I did see a 0.5 to 1 mpg difference.

nope... but I warn you the AWD snow action is much more fun... trust me I have been in 2WD all winter, the back end doesnt brake loose and it does not get any traction either.... its a loose loose situation, maybe if you have posi it will be fun :supz:

your not trying hard enough LOL I've been sliding my RWD around all winter for kicks. especially on that 2 am-ish drive home when I'm real tired and need to kick on the adrenaline to stay awake. \:D/

I also don't understand people getting stuck in 2WDs. I don't unless I'm burried up to the body or doing something stupid. 6 people have gotten stuck in my driveway this week. We got a butt load of snow but I was to lazy to bust out the blower. I don't get stuck but every other person who attempts to turn around out back has and does get stuck. I'm beginning to believe 90% of people on the road have no friken clue how to drive in deep snow or on ice. Especially the tards in FWDs who just stand on the pedal and spin the tires like it's going out of style.

guilty! but then again, i have a regular set of passenger tires on my van that don't have a very aggressive tread to them, and i have a bad habit of working the throttle too hard.

i intend to fix that either later this year, or next year with my tax return to get a set of all terrain tires.

Labeled "ATC" and it probably won't make any difference in the funny vibration. Change the t-case fluid with 2 new liters of GM Auto-Trak 2.

hey guys....If I pull the ATC 20 amp fuse it will deactivate the AWD, that should mean that I could pull the front drive shaft after and it shouldn't matter right? I just picked up a 2003 astro AWD with the viscous T-case for 1600$.. :supz:
My first astro...the fluid smelled like burnt steel when I changed it and I have no knowledge of these viscous models.
LOVE THE VAN.
