New guy from Norwalk, Ca.

Post by BonesandFeathers »

My name is paul, and i can't walk by a car w/o getting greasy
wish I had known about you guys earlier, would have saved me from reinventing the wheel when "The fortress of Solitude" had mechanical issues.
Given, that my wife has put something like 185,000 of the 205,000 on it, the beast has been very, very good, with only the usual consumable suspension and brake parts being replaced. And the transmission once (but it was a $1200 well spent).
I am generally found under the hood of a Volvo, as it has been my car of choice, for the last 30 years or so. This makes the transition to GM thinking make my head get a little sideways, but the exercise is good for it.
I live in Southern California, south L.A. county in Norwalk. I have a detached garage with a 75 foot driveway. The east side is blocked by the house the west side by the garage wall of an apartment complex. The garage is bigger than the first apt I lived in.
My son recently graduated from UTI (in Rancho Cucamonga), that's been endless fun, of a fatherly sort. watching a kid who wouldn't get his hands dirty to a guy who wants to wrestle diesel motors, and gives me advice about repairs.
I worked for Sears doing appliance repair (mostly laundry) till my manager and I had a confrontation in the office (guess who won), I ended up @ IBM, where I fell in love with computers, starting with Windows for Work Groups 3.11, DOS 6/.6.1 coal fired 4MB of ram, 16 MHZ processors.
That facility closed and I was not interested in relocating so i went to work for a local school district as a custodian. More money less worries, medical, dental,,retirement, and they think i'm wonderful because i fix a few things so they don't have to wait for a work order all the time.
Wife works as an elementary school secretary, Son is working for Thermo King in Fontana, doing reefer installations on customers trailers like Jack in The Box, Fresh and Easy.
Daughter graduated from Chapman University, and is looking for work.
That's life in a nutshell.
