Post by irocblu »

I use Super Premium with no corn in it in the lawn mower and snow blower as they don't have sealed fuel systems and set for long periods of time. I use the std unleaded corn crap in my Astros with no ill effect that I can tell. Making Ethanol from corn is just a stupid idea for so many reasons.

It ruins the fuel injection system in my enduro and makes it hard to cold start.

When I was in school in the 70s they said we were to run out of fuel in the late 90s.

I'm learning to not believe a lot of what "They" say.
Q: Is ethanol the same thing as moonshine? I have a few thoughts on moonshine ! Lol...

Do you mean the 10% or E85 as well? If E85 were common it would change the definition of "pump gas" vehicles entirely. Big compression, turbocharging/supercharging and nitrous would be comonplace. It's a hit with the tuners as you're not paying for race gas which is $16/gallon last I heard and if you're using low lead illegal to run on the street. Not that it stopped anyone. I've been seeing some huge power made on E85 engines with forced induction. Makes it almost too easy, I had a buddy of mine running 27 PSI on 50% E85 in his IS300 with a 2JZGTE (Supra Turbo) engine in it. He could run 35PSI with straight E85, and he'd be at 15-18 PSI with straight up 93. At 35 versus 15 PSI it could easily be 400-500hp difference at the flywheel. BTW the car made 690 to the wheels at 27 PSI on 50% corn juice.

The big problem with E10 is it causes vapor locking in carbed vehicles and other issues like gas line degradation. It's a big problem with several makers of braided fuel line, and it's why if you notice the OEMs tend to use Nylon or PTFE (Teflon) line instead of a ton of rubber these days.

I've seen a bunch of articles about turners figuring out how to use E85 and loving it. I personally know nothing about it but would be interested to check it out if i had a spar engine. I certainly don't like the idea of turning food into fuel though..... but i've been told you can make E85 from trees or grass too
