new hosting purchased

Post by justice »

Ok, I just completed purchasing the new hosting account for ASV. And I will soon start migrating the site over to the new host. One thing that impressed me already about the new host is that they actually CALLED me (on a Sunday, no less) to confirm the account purchase. The analyst said that they actually turn down 5-10 account purchases a day because they deem them as "fishy or suspect" ..sounds good to me.

Anyway. There will be a small delay for the name servers to get updated and in place, but the site will be accessible first through http://www.astrosafaivans.org. asv.com and asv.net will be pointed to the new server once thesite is ready for use.

First point of order is moving the "shell" of the site over. I may redesign the front page at the same time.

After that, i will be moving the forum over. The forum will still be phpBB like we are currently using. I currently do not have the funds to purchase vBulletin since the domain name transfers and new hosting took up pretty much all of the donations. I think there is about $40 left in the accout right now. :)

I would ask everyone to back up and save thier entries in to how to section and members gallery sections as I don't know If I will be able to migrate them properly or not. And we may be going with a different package for the how to section.

I'l also be moving the chat server as well, and may be upgrading the chat software.

Once I get the page setup and the forum moved, the site will be opened for use on the new server.

more to come.

more reasons to like the new host. I was doing some testing on the new site and for some reason, it would not let me delete a directory I had created. I was able to delete the others, but for some reason, this one would not delete.

I subbmitted a trouble ticket and had response and resolution within the hour. Very nice.
