Re: 05 GM Savana 2500 4.8

On my M11006, I've narrowed the residual miss down to the ignition module (DTC: semi-consistent P0305) after replacing the spark plugs, secondary wires, HVS cap and rotor, even the ignition coil to systematically rule out possible causes - I had the HVS break on the road, traced the root failure to...

Re: CB Radio mounting location

For my M11006, I've wishlisted a Cobra® 75 WX ST due to compactness of the remote transceiver and an integrated NOAA weather receiver in the remote unit. Already set up a hanger for the control unit on the starboard of the center console. Wiring is straightforward; the auxiliary "hot at all ti...

Re: AC blowing warm air

:-k I've an M11006 with an otherwise fully-functioning climate control system, notwithstanding a breached refrigerant line (thus the pulled compressor fuse) and a compromised fan-speed switch. Is your climate control system holding refrigerant (not the case for me)? If so, check for a blown compress...

Re: Tips on Changing Spark Plugs & Wires

Six straight boots at the plug end would be ideal — minimum risk of frying on the exhaust headers. I've taken a Taylor Spiro-Pro V8 wire set under advisement, as 8.0mm OD is the fattest the High-Voltage Switch cap can take.

Re: Trailers you have towed with your Astro or Safari

I pull a 3,800 pound camper with my 2002 AWD Astro that has timbren supports and transmission cooler and standard axles. We get about 10-11 mpg at 57 mph. Could use a little more horsepower when climbing hills but otherwise it pulls ok. Last camping trip was over 1,700 miles round trip. Was not abl...

Re: chevrolet G20 van rear axle compatibility

](*,) I suspect that your G-20 originally had an American Axle semi-float with a 14-bolt diff. The 10-bolt's too light for the job, must've been swapped in by a previous owner who didn't pay attention to the axle-weight and torque ratings.

Re: Transfer case with .85:1

The lightest transfer cases to my knowledge that have overdrive are built into the crawlerboxes on Class-5-and-up Macks. Even StaK 4x4 transfer cases don't have overdrive among the gear options; neither does Advance Adapters.

A/C Blower Switch issues 1996 - end of production

:-k Early January 2022, the blower speed selector on my 1997 M11006 broke, leaving me the two slowest out of four speeds. How common is shaft breakage for 1996-2005? Short of replacement of the whole A/C control unit (which has a thermostatic switch and vacuum valves in addition to the switch descri...

Re: Spark Plug Wire Boot Question

 I've recent experience with the secondary wires on a V-6; my 1997 M11006 is equipped with the Vortec 4300. The shortest and longest wires, which go to the foremost left (#1) and aftmost right (#6) cylinders, respectively, have the straight boots as a hedge against burns of the wires themselv...

Re: Fuel Pump - Fuel Sender Assembly - Replacement Procedure

@Astrophysics :yawinkle: Congrats on a successful pump replacement. I's considering the MU1380 (General Motors Corp. P/N# 15036173) as a stock upgrade for my M11006 three years ago.

Re: Fuel Pump - Fuel Sender Assembly - Replacement Procedure

Good tips. Thanks. Lucky you still have your "skid plate", thought it's pretty thin and I don't think it could take much skidding. It's more of a flying debris shield. Mine completely rusted and fell away. 8-[ Serious skid plates for four-by's are at least 16 AMG. Gotta design a full set ...

Re: AC Gremlins

:-k @ Astrophysics Gotta be a leak somewhere in the system, in addition to at least one clog in the refrigerant loop. I know that my M11006 has a compromised return line to the accumulator -- abraded aluminum on the inside of the line from the rear evaporator where the fuel lines to the injector ass...

Re: Slider door handle

Does the lock assembly itself have issues? I'm extrapolating from experience with my M11006, which, I suspect, didn't have enough meat on the release pawls to allow for wear (see Passenger door, BOTH handles broken. How open?).

Re: I unplug the MAF Sensor, WHAT should the running engine do?

Hi All! Searched as best I can but couldn't find an answer to this question. On a 2003 Astro w/ stock engine. Bought it with the evil P0300 code. Can do highway speed just fine but can feel some vibration as the engine runs a little "rough". Trying to troubleshoot the P0300 DTC code. Engi...
