Re: Torsion bars needed source???
Hey all - yeah, it sounds like the cat is out of the bag on the Sway-a-way bars. I'm glad that whole thing finally came to fruition. I had started working with Brian back in late 2020. I paid for a couple of salvage yard sample bars to get sent their way back at the time, then it looked for a while ...

Re: New fuel pump fixed it
Good confirmation.
Conventional wisdom seems to be to stick to the ACDelco pumps, and there's mounting evidence that this is valid. I haven't swapped mine yet, but I've got an ACD sitting in the box waiting for the moment.

Yeah, I was thinking the same. I've got my set on-order, but that's a little disappointing.

Re: Passenger dash handle
I realized I posted this process in the "What did you do today" thread, but I thought I'd add an answer here in case someone is searching later about the procedure for replacing the passenger dashboard grab handle: These are just plastic with metal studs molded in: https://lh3.googleuserco...

Re: Torsion bars needed source???
Nice!
For that price, it's certainly worth giving it a try until/unless we can nail down a torsion-bar upgrade. Adding that to my To-Do list!

Re: Herbie's Astrolander/ZMB build thread
Weekend Projects, continued In a previous tweak, I'd added a bit of table rail to the rack on the rear door. Being able to wedge the adjustable leg onto the bumper was fine , but it meant I couldn't access the rear of the van while the table was in use. To fix this, I welded up a little drop bracket...

Re: Torsion bars needed source???
The length is one of the things that stymied the conversation I was having last year. Some of the bars are as short as 34.750, some are more than 36" long. Since not everybody lists distinct lengths and part #s, and some list "interchange" parts, it's hard to nail down what lengths co...

Re: Torsion bars needed source???
That's who I was working with, but we kept getting stuck on settling on a length and hex-end size. I had had two different bars (left/right) drop-shipped to him from junkyards and apparently there were year-over-year differences. I will have to reach back out and see if we can't just settle on somet...

Brake Upgrade for 2003-2005 vans? Maybe!
So I got a bug in my ear this afternoon about trying (again) to figure out if there was a path to a parts-bin brake upgrade for my van. It seems like maybe there IS such a path for the 2003+ (6-lug) vans. As far as I can tell, the 2003+ vans have GMT800-compatible front uprights. The same part#s are...

Re: Rock rails, nerf bars or side steps. Build your own.
Hey all, performing a little thread necromancy here. I realized that I had downloaded Dean's original photos of his rock rails and plans prior to Photobucket pulling their hosting crap. I've got these in an album, in case someone needs to see the photos without the PB logo splashed all over the midd...

Re: Torsion bars needed source???
I think only Dorman has them now. I have been working with a custom spring maker her in California to try to get a run of stiffer-than-OEM springs made, but it has been slow going to get an accurate assessment of the range of lengths and end-sizes (and clocking) that will be the most "universal...
