Re: Gremlins
Just to keep it simple, and I just went through a mess of electrical on my new van, so this might help. Check the battery under load. Check all, or as many, ground as you possibly can. Have alternator checked Why? I had a problem with radio turning off when starting the van, rolling windows down, hi...

Re: What did you do to/with your van today?
Removed batteries, strobe lights, and alarm system form the '89. getting ready to install them in the '95. Found a ground wire missing on the '95. the '89 has one from the battery to chassis and same spot on the chassis to engine. The '95 did not. I took the battery cables out of the '89. Will be us...

Re: Possible alternator replacement....
I can't remember the exact details of the swap, but you can put a tahoe, surburban, or other big truck like that, alternator on the 4.3L engine with little to no modification. Napa sells a 140amp alternator as well, for the 4.3L, but you must buy their wiring upgrade kit too. Do the Big 3 upgrade no...

Re: It's been a while for me being here, but here I am
that's what I'm thinking, HPbyStan. I didnt think anything about the ground wires for the door poppers. I didn't even look for them and hopefully they're in the doors. I am going to run new wires for grounds to them and see what happens. I am also going to attempt, once again, to find the stock wiri...

Re: It's been a while for me being here, but here I am
I'm thinking about that (getting the wiring harness). However, I wonder if the harness off the '89 will work. that would save some cash. I thought I had it all fixed today. The headunit was playing nice, clean, and loud, with the van not running. I decided to try driving it to the store and every ti...

Re: It's been a while for me being here, but here I am
I sure hope so, lol. I have faith in this van even though I am kind of sad/upset about buying it. I evidently wanted it so bad, without realizing it, I didn't check everything over like I normally do. Little things like I checked the oil, but forgot the transmission fluid. I checked under the van, b...

It's been a while for me being here, but here I am
I was losing interest in Astro/Safaris for a while. I think it was because I quit competing in car audio competitions, got married, had a son, and had more problems with my '89 Astro than I could fix at one time (or any time). Last week a bug hit me and I am back. That bug was a 1995 Chevy Astro. He...

Honestly, for what I do, I would rock that van in a heartbeat.

Re: Upgrading electrical questions.
Stinger has voltmeters in blue and red. They are usually pretty cheap priced, but you have to calibrate them over time. There is a cheap priced volt meter on Ebay that you can get for less than $20 and free shipping. It comes from China. I've got one that I really need to install. You don't really n...

Re: Charging gelcells?
On that brochure link you posted it says charge voltage cycle: 13.8-14.6 and float charge: 13.4-13.6 My alternator outputs 14.5 as I believe most factory alternators do (at least the ones I've messed with). So it should be good. But then again, I'm starting a battery bank of lawn mower batteries :) .

Re: DIY painting wheels/new wheels for $55.99
Back when I had my Chevy Beretta GT, I painted the whole car with the Dupli-color wheel paint. I used the HWP102 - Graphite. It looks pretty darn good http://img335.imageshack.us/img335/6996/driverside9ir.jpg http://img335.imageshack.us/img335/4554/driverrear7dn.jpg But yea. The paint works good for...

Good luck CS. I too am in pretty much the same spot. I've been working maintenance for the past 10 years, 5 years of it as a supervisor. I got laid off in January due to cut backs. Now I stressing every day about the bills and such. I've been looking for a job every day. I've had a few call backs (H...

Re: My van is too quiet- can't hear sirens
It could be the newer sirens they're using. They are not as loud as a few years ago, for some reason. Down here the only thing you can hear, with windows rolled up, are firetrucks. I've had quite a few cops, ambulances, and such come right up to the rear of my van, and can't hardly hear them EVEN wi...
