Re: Another no start -- 1999 Astro RESOLVED

It was the coil. I got delayed on this project and the emergency ceased when I got my old Toyota running. I figured I would check the things I had already replaced rather than plowing new ground. I borrowed a fuel pressure tester at AutoZone and had 60 psi. I was pretty confident it was not a fuel p...

Re: Another no start -- 1999 Astro

What brand fuel pump did you buy? AC Delco Did you replace the fuel filter? No, the unions were VERY rusty and I was waiting for a more opportune time. That is why I checked for fuel at the return line. Have you hooked a fuel pressure gauge up to it? No (I don’t have one). Have you inspected the gea...

Another no start -- 1999 Astro

I have a 1999 Astro Van (2WD, 4.3 L V6). About 132,000 miles. Since I purchased it (2011), it would not start in extreme rain. I knew (or at least strongly suspected) the problem was the coil. If I wanted to get the van started, I could shoot a hair dryer at the coil for 30 minutes and good to go. O...

Re: ACDelco Rotor

Thanks for the confirmation. I did not think there were different engines in the 1999 models.

ACDelco Rotor

I have a 1999 Astro Van LT. The best I can figure is the OEM AC rotor is D465. But almost every site states the D465 is for the extended van. Is there a difference in the ignition parts for an extended van? Is the D465 the correct part for my van? If not, is there an ACDelco rotor for my van? I'm co...

Re: Ignition Coil Replacement Procedure (shown with 2003 Ast

Thanks again Chemist. Your step-by-step was again a lifesaver, this time on my 1999 Astro van. Went much quicker this time: 1) the engine was not covered in oil and grease like the 1998, and 2) I had experience. Finished the entire job in 4½ hours (including 30 minutes for the trip to AutoZone for t...

Re: 235/75R15 Tires

OK, you made me a believer.

I really like the General Grabber HTS, but my retailer does not have it in 235/70R15. Looks like I will have to drop back to 225/70R15, which is almost identical to the stock 215/75R15.

I'll post a photo when installed.

Thanks for all the replies.

235/75R15 Tires

I have searched the forum and done a general google search with mixed results. I have a 1999 Astro Van LT with no modifications. I am wanting to install a set of General Grabber HTS 235/75R15XL on 7" rims. Will I have problems with the front tires rubbing? I would not mind a little bit of rubbi...

Low speed stumbling and SES light

This is a 1998 Astro. I had stumbling at low speeds, even after the engine was warmed up. The SES light was sometimes on; sometimes off. Maybe also some high speed missing. I replaced the plugs and wires (I had replaced the coil, distributor cap, and rotor 18 months (12,000 miles) ago). No change. S...

My light is off, but I assume codes have been stored during the periods of time the light was on????

If the light is off, will the scanner retrieve old codes?

Re: Retrieving SES Codes

Hey, thanks for the response. It is sad that the '98 Astro is one of the newest vehicles I own, so I'm not sure how to diagnose problems. I will take it to AutoZone to check the codes. BTW, you posted an absolute golden nugget on page three of => http://astrosafarivans.org/bb2/viewtopic.php?f=7&...

Retrieving SES Codes

My Google and search skills have failed me and I don't know OBD1 from OBD2. I have a 1998 Astro Van. I remember on my 1992 Chevy Van and 1992 Saturn, I would jump a couple of wires on the diagnostic plug and retrieve the SES codes when I turned the key to the "ON" position. Does this still...

Re: Another (Same Old) Antenna Problem

Thank you CaptSquid Followed your directions and I now have AM/FM radio. I will be able to listen to baseball and football again. My antenna arrived today and I already had the old base drilled and tapped. http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb215/vanagon40/999007.jpg http://i207.photobucket.com/albu...

Re: Another (Same Old) Antenna Problem

I think I finally understand. You're telling me the replacement mast has female threads and the base unit should have a threaded male stub (ouch, it hurts to type "male stub") somewhat similar to what I tried to depict in the photo below (please excuse my poor photo editing abilities). If ...

Another (Same Old) Antenna Problem

I'm new here, but I have searched high and low and I'm still not sure what I need to do to replace my antenna mast. I know replacement of the entire antenna including the cable requires the dash to be removed and therefore the preferred solution is to replace the broken antenna mast. So exactly what...
