Re: AWD swap for Astro-based RV?

Unfortunately he's not getting back to me so he either sold it, kicked the bucket, or who knows what.

It honestly didn't sound like that much work. I'll keep my eyes open for another one.

AWD swap for Astro-based RV?

OK, so this idea is out of left field, but here it goes. There is an old (87) Astro-based RV for sale semi-locally. It's stripped and needs a lot of work, but it runs and is advertised as only having 66k miles. I happen to own a '94 AWD Astro with a blown engine. I can also pick one up locally for c...

Re: No Ignition, real head-scratcher. Seemingly no HEI signa

OK, we can close this topic. I'm getting spark now.

Turns out it was a weak mag coil. I was getting .3VAC and it wasn't enough.

Re: No Ignition, real head-scratcher. Seemingly no HEI signa

OBD1 typically doesn't have useful codes. I'll check if swapping the diff doesn't help. I have a cheat sheet in my GM service manual.

I also just tested the ohms on both coils and they were fine.

Re: No Ignition, real head-scratcher. Seemingly no HEI signa

I had both ignition modules tested at NAPA and they are fine.

This leaves, what, pickup coil? I got 0.3vAC out of the dizzy that's installed. I'll probably put the old one back in and see if that helps :\

No Ignition, real head-scratcher. Seemingly no HEI signal.

Hey fellow astro-vanners, So I got the van packed and ready for the weekend last night and then...the engine won't start! Tried various things until 5 in the morning so I'm pretty shot, but here is the run-down: • No spark. • I have a backup coil, ECU, and distributor so I first tried swapping the H...

Re: Transfer case slipping; van creeping in park

So everything appears to work and it no longer creeps which brings me to one last question before I put this thread to bed: Why did the creep go away? I thought the connection from the tail shaft to the rear (t-case) was solid and only the front drive was viscous. I've been driving with a completely...

Re: Transfer case slipping; van creeping in park

WHEW! Oh man, got all the parts on and tight now. I feel and look like I've been wrestling a walrus in a 50gal barrel full of axle grease! Getting that diff installed required some serious core strength. I also had to swap one of the bushings which was a barrel of fun without the special tool. Thank...

Re: Transfer case slipping; van creeping in park

Maybe it's due to my stubbornness, but I nearly have this thing fixed. I found a front diff from a different parts place and in the middle of the swap. I got frustrated trying to figure out how to remove the original diff. All the bolts are out, but it's resting on the steering linkage up front and ...

Re: Transfer case slipping; van creeping in park

Not looking good. I don't think they have either the Astro or blazer part. I may be stuck with 2wd. Extra suck in that they don't give refunds so I'm out the cost of the tcase. Wheee!

Re: Transfer case slipping; van creeping in park

Yea, thanks for the tip. I'm aware of the u-joint style as I removed a tranny from a suburban with just that. I plan to get there bright and early tomorrow with the goal of doing the swap on their parking lot (if they'll let me). In any case, IF I get a Blazer front drive assembly I'll definitely ge...

Re: Transfer case slipping; van creeping in park

I was climbing on the east side of the sierras in June, but then the van started having issues and headed to Oregon (land of no climbing).

I'll call the place tomorrow and see what they have. Fingers crossed!
