Re: V6 turbo - Typhoon & Syclone [with an 'S']

Kind of still didn't answer my question. Was the turbo 4.3's over time found to have problems and is that why we don't see many of them around??. The Sycone and Typhoon were pretty expensive. They changed the body style right after those trucks, too. They didn't seem of fly off the dealer lots at $2...

Re: OK I know I keep asking questions but...............

Install the TransGo 4L60E-HD2 kit. One step of the instructions tells you to grind on the shift valve. The comments say that it gets the tranny out of reverse quicker. Be sure to add a bottle of Lube Gard when you re-fill If you don't have the 4L60E, I think there is a similar Reprogram kit for the ...

Re: Pump or Regulator?

The 92-95 CPI setup has a common problem with the fuel pressure regulator. You should be able to do a quick check There is a small valve in the top of the intake manifold... remove it http://www.asashop.org/autoinc/feb2000/images/tt4.jpg Look inside with a flashlight. If one side is really clean, yo...

Re: New fuel pump record

I looked at the rotaryaviation fuel pump and the edelbrock pump. Those are both Walbro external pumps. Walbro makes several different external pumps. The GSL393 should be more than enough for an EFI M/L van. I doubt you'll see problems with fuel pressure, because the orifice in the OE regulator shou...

Re: recommend a muffler for me

Dynomax Super Turbo is the ONLY way to go. They flow better than the slow-master, and have more of a grown-up sound to them. http://www.dynomax.com/assets/2008catalog_pdf/superturbo.pdf I have either the 17770 or 17769 on my Syclone, and had one of those on my 97 Astro. Before I put the turbo kit on...

Re: No more turbo. Sad day in the neighborhood

I'm working on the "what's in it for me" side of this CARS deal. Let me think on paper, here... If I sell my van outright, I'll be lucky to get $2500. Slight hail damage, dent in fender from wife, busted AC, sealed-beam headlights, 162k miles, and it sets a "random miss" code. If...

Re: No more turbo. Sad day in the neighborhood

Have you looked at the Saturn Astra? It's quite a few more dollars. For example. The Nissan Versa 1.6 w/ AC and manual tranny is $11875. The Astra starts at $15875 without AC. Hyundai Accent is $11985 after $1500 rebate. Last week, the Kia Spectra was cheaper than the Rio, because it had a $3000 re...

Re: No more turbo. Sad day in the neighborhood

I don't believe in car payments! Me, neither. That is exactly why I'm looking for the least expensive car on the market. The replacement will be the "spare" we keep around to use if one of the other vehicles in our fleet breaks. We also loan the spare to folks from church that need a car ...

No more turbo. Sad day in the neighborhood

The CARS program [a.k.a. cash for clunkers] is more than I could handle... It was my tax money to begin with, so I want some of it back. There is no way my Astro is worth $4500 any other way... hail damage, dent in fender where my wife backed into it, AC is out, and doesn't have the sexy front end. ...

Re: Help please

Since it's a '94, you won't the get really good OBD-II like info from the computer, but it should give you a clue. Drive it around some more and see if you can get the Service Engine Soon (SES) light to come back on. Then retrieve that code and let us know what it is. Does your van have the CPI engi...

Re: Turbocharging a 4.3L CPI engine???

So if you add boost to the intake the computer will auto adjust the fuel pressure (to a point of course). The computer doesn't control the fuel pressure. A typical regulator has a manifold reference line that runs to it. It will lower the fuel pressure under vacuum (e.g. idle) and raise the fuel pr...

Re: Turbocharging a 4.3L CPI engine???

oops... I just noticed you have AWD. My kit was only for the RWD vans, 'cause the turbo mounts where the prop shaft runs. [-X You may have to find some Syclone exhaust manifolds and mount your turbo high on the right. That might be kind of tight, but I have seen Astros w/ Syclone setup on Ebay a cou...

Re: Turbocharging a 4.3L CPI engine???

shouldn't be a problem... STS makes turbo kits for a lot of non-turbo EFI vehicles. I have a turbo kit on my '91. Your CPI should be similar. Since the fuel pressure regulator is inside the intake manifold, the boost pressure will reach the manifold, and the fuel pressure will automatically be incre...

Re: did some photochoppin

You have to be careful when shopping for those wheels, 'cause GM made the same wheels for the S/T trucks, too.

Only problem is the S/T trucks have 4.75 bolt pattern instead of our 5.0 bolt pattern.

Re: 1990 Suburban acting up - won't start at times

Tonight I replaced the pickup coil, but didn't fix the problem I tested the resistance of the new pickup. It was about 840 ohms. I put the new pickup coil on the intake manifold, so it would warm-up. I started the truck, and waited for it to die... about 15 minutes later... it died. I checked the re...
