Re: 1990 Shorty Project.

It just ran really rough. What bugged me the most was the shop said they couldn't figure it out but put in a whole set of plugs. Oh well, what can you do?

Re: 1990 Shorty Project.

Mis-fire problem I had...I'd taken it to a local shop only to find out they didn't really know....honestly, anything. I found the problem and got a set of MSD HEI plug wires to go with the HEI Distributor. I had purchased some cheap Accel ones from the local parts store..here's what I found...and ha...

Re: 1990 Shorty Project.

Thanks for the info....However, I guess I should have indicated what I put in it first vs. assuming someone reading the entire thread. The 350 is a fresh rebuild - I put it all together and bypassed the ecm totally because I went old school for simplicity (ie. 1 fuel line and 1 positive battery conn...

Re: 1990 Shorty Project.

All, It's been way too long since I've posted...many things have happened since last posting...For one, retired from the USAFR with 25 years of service...(11 total active duty years and too many trips to the middle east) moved into a new house and went on vacation for 10 days in the caribbean... So ...

Re: 1990 Shorty Project.

I'm sure you are absolutely right! However, as the timing isn't the greatest as I'm moving in the next week. So my though was this: What could I possibly do to make an attempt at temporarily fixing this...Off set seal and some elbow grease and polish....I guess what else do I have to lose? The alter...

Re: 1990 Shorty Project.

Ok, here's the deal... Oil pan still leaked and my thought was the only way to determine what was leaking after viewing all possible locations, I tore the S$%it apart one more time....I truly thought of just redoing the oil pan one more time, but fellas at work said, "It's got to be the main se...

Re: 1990 Shorty Project.

My short block builder is an hour away so it's difficult to go back an forth, but he's been very helpful with suggestions and trying to diagnose from afar. He'd asked me what kind of PCV valve I have. I told him it's one of those chrome ones from the local auto parts store...He said those gadgets so...

Re: 1990 Shorty Project.

The block is an early 80's engine with a 2 piece main seal....before I progress, I want to try an engine oil dye and black light test or something similar to that technique. just to verify to 100%. It's possible the seal could have been put in backwards, highly unlikely though as the guy who built t...

Re: 1990 Shorty Project.

Nothing but frustrations folks!! After re sealing the oil pan with the standard felpro gasket set I thought I'd licked this oil leak....NOT TRUE!!! Still leaks, but I'm confident it's not from the oil pan, but the main rear seal. ](*,) After letting the gasket set for a day, I'd gone out to the gara...

Re: 1990 Shorty Project.

Well, after dropping the pan all the way, the following is a picture of the one piece gasket. The gasket is blue and the black is my attempt yesterday at stopping the leak. If you look closely, it appears the gasket had folded over the first time it was installed....not sure how that could have happ...

Re: 1990 Shorty Project.

True...What I don't understand is why the leak in the first place...especially after a bit of seal is applied to the area...I'm going to try a new gasket first, then give Jegs a call and see what they suggest if this next attempt doesn't fix it. Thanks for the support and suggestions.

Re: 1990 Shorty Project.

Thanks for the advise....and I'll certainly take my time...I've decided to pull the pan off one more time and try it with a felpro 4 piece gasket per my engine builders suggestion. He's had better luck sealing up oil pans with 4 vs. the 1 piece. Not sure why...My pan is a new pan from Jegs and it's ...

Re: 1990 Shorty Project.

tried dropping the oil pan enough to get access to the one piece blue seal to squeeze some right stuff in and under the original seal....no luck.....still leaks! ](*,) Now it's take it off again and start over... I guess no one said it would be easy!!!!!!!! Damit
