P0016 code issues
A few weeks ago, my van threw a P0016 code -- camshaft position - crankshaft position sensor correlation Bank 1 Sensor A. Van is a 2003 AWD LT, 168,000 miles. It continued to run just fine with the check engine light on and after I reset it. Light came back on almost immediately, but van kept runnin...

Rear heat issue -- new parts
2003 Astro AWD LT, 156k miles. Within the last 2 weeks, the blower resistor failed, followed (almost immediately after replacement) by the blower motor. Fixed all that, now have perfect heat again in front. For the last few months, the rear heat has not worked. I bypassed the solenoid by routing the...

Front end howling like a banshee
Today out of nowhere, the front end of my 2003 AWD started howling like a banshee at about 50 mph. 140,000 miles, I'm the second owner, never a peep out of it until today. In the time I've owned it I've put 30,000 on it, towing, hauling stuff around, going all over the place. Never heard anything un...

2003 intermittent stalling
The last week my 03 Astro (129,000 miles) has started an intermittent stall or no-start problem. I am getting no check engine light (I haven't tried plugging in my reader to see what it may show, but the light is not on). Here's what I've encountered: Last week it stalled as my wife pulled into her ...

Not exactly new, but been inactive for a while
Coming back into the fold after a time away. My 2002 Astro LT (purchased new in July 2002) just called it a life after 209,000 faithful miles. Head gasket... I wasn't getting the White Cloud of Death, but there was at least 3 quarts of coolant in the crankcase. Having vowed never to attempt major en...

Replace rocker panels on an LT with running boards?
Has anybody attempted to replace an entire rocker panel? My passenger-side rocker is almost completely rotted away, thanks to GM's brilliant installation techniques for the factory running boards. It seems the the running board assembly is designed in such a way as to trap water, mud, road salt, etc...

James,
Thanks! That's some awesome advice, and exactly the kind of expertise I was hoping for. I will check the temp thing tomorrow, right before I head to Midas and make them give me a new cat...

P0420 Code
I had an earlier thread on this, which mysteriously disappeared. So I guess I need to start again; please bear with me. I have a 2002 Astro with 139k on it, and it's started giving me a P0420 code. At first I thought it would be the fault of a leak at the flange between the cat and the muffler, but ...

Re: Brands or models of your tires
I'm in my third winter with 225-70R15 Michelin LTX M/S. These replaced a set of BFG Radial TAs, which were nice but somewhat like bowling balls in winter. The Michelins are great -- quiet and ride well, excellent wet grip, and as good in snow as 2WD can be. I'll be due for new tires before next wint...

Re: Trailers you have towed with your Astro or Safari
Here's my biggest load. 1990 Mazda B2200, filled with spare parts and camping equipment. Also had a 2001 Aprilia scooter stuffed in the cargo area of the Astro, along with 4 adults. All-up we ran somewhere close to 12,000 lbs. Astro cruised happily at 60-65, giving 15-16 mpg. Brakes were a little ov...

Supercharger anyone?
Just a thought... I have an opportunity to get hold of an Eaton blower as used on Regal GS, Pontiac SSEi, GTP, etc. I would basically have it as a spare for the wife's 2001 GS, but the gears have started turning. Has anyone attempted to fit one of these to an Astro 4.3? Besides the obvious manifold ...

Actually, that's our old friend who we got the Aprilia and Mazda from. I'm the old guy in the black t-shirt on the left in the second pic. I'm old, but not that old!

Re: New member, old van
Pics, huh? Well, I don't have very many on the computer, but here's a pair from Labor Day 2010. These are from a road trip we took to Nashville to retreive the Aprilia (loaded in the back of the Astro) and a 1990 Mazda B2200. Deadheaded the trailer down there with the 4 of us and camping gear, then ...

New member, old van
Hi everybody! I just joined this forum, but I'm far from a new owner. I bought my 2002 Astro LT new, to replace my '94 Astro CL EXT. The '02 has faithfully served for over 135k so far, including a trip to the Rockies -- got snowed off Pikes Peak in July! -- ; Oklahoma; and more round trips to Greenv...
