Got my new to me 95 Astro at the school today
Hello all; Been a while since I have been here or posted anything. My ol' 91 Safari shorty V8 died an agonizing death about 4 yrs ago, and I have been in mourning for a couple of days. Just to make my day a bit brighter a few months ago, a friend of mine said he had a 95 Astro that he would give me....

Looks like a revival of new old timers. LOL
Glad you 'graduated from work' OK, Bill. I hope to do the same in a couple of years,

Re: long time
I have been away from this site for a long time but astro vans still run through my blood . I have found a 89 or 90 GMC Safari Gt with a busted timing chain . Are these models still popular? OK, I confess, I don't know what a Safari GT is. What is a Safari GT, and how does it compare to just a regu...

Re: 4.3L w/ roller lifters
hey guys, I have to replace a couple damaged lifters in an engine I have. Any of the service info I read doesn't mention which way the small oil hole on the side should face. I'm assuming it doesn't matter?? just wanted to be sure before I drop them in. Thanks Hey Chuckles; It doesn't matter which ...

Re: bench testing a tranny.
I know there is only so much you can check without running it on the road in the car (or on a dyno) But i am curious as to what test's and/or method you would recommend for bench testing a transmission. And what to check for before putting in and driving. Reason being.... I have found a used 4l60e ...

Re: Rough Ride (Bumping)
I am experiencing severe bumping whenever I drive between 65 and 74 miles per hour. Over 74 miles per hour the bumping decreases (or seems to). I have had a front end alignment and all wheels balanced. Bumping continued, mechanic replaced front routers (said they were warped) and replaced tires. St...

Re: Brakes did something funny
Yep. You got master cylinder issues. I had one fail AFTER I had Firestone do a COMPLETE brake job. The mech said that masters rarely go bad. BS! When I pulled that one out, there was a pit in the cylinder wall big enough to hide a VW in. Make sure you bleed the replacement master BEFORE you install...

Re: What sort of Symptoms from Warn Idler Arms?
Nobody mentioned bearings. If they're worn, you will feel vibration while driving. With the vehicle jacked up, the wheel will be loose in all directions. Aye, laddie; You are correct! You can check to see if the bearings are loose or worn while driving, too. If you hear a howling or whining noise c...

Re: Howling sound when let off gas?
I changed the fluid and checked everything I could and found nothing wrong. However I noticed the transmission seems to buck a little when the noise is present, could this be the lock up converter? and the antilock brake light is on in the dash. Hello Mark; Usually if the torque converter is going ...

Re: 8" rims - will they work?
All good points. Then there's the pros: less unsprung weight = less vibration, more grip less rotational inertia= more power better braking etc... Somehow I can't picture myself bending a rim back into place using just my girly 4lb hammer by the side of the road. Another thing is I have one bent st...

Re: Engine swap. 98 Engine into 99 Astro
Should be the same. The only thing to worry about is the engine has to meet 1999 emission standards instead of 1998. Of course, the standards may be the same for both years.
Sorry to hear of the demise of the original engine.
Drive safe,

Re: Howling sound when let off gas?
OK Thank you, I am doing a full tune up including trans filter and rear gear oil so that's a good time to do that. I have another rear axle assembly from a 92 but its got 3:42 gears I don't know what this one has at this time. If you still have the glove box and ID sticker in it, you can tell what ...
