Swap

I do have another vehicle I can use if required. I have also talked to a big rebuilder who also replaces the engine and they did not recommend going to a V8 as it is not straight forward. Told me to stick to putting another 4.3 rebuilt back in it.

V8 Interesting

I have read a lot about those mods. But sadly I am not into it (doing it myself for various reason, time, facility, means etc). Also Drive Clean here may be affected on the vehicle. If there is a place that does this I may entertain it. It all boil down to $$$. I have repaired or replaced most of th...

Engine rebuild?

I am told the engine is going. Connecting rod tapping and rebuild required. But job is too big for the shop and takes up too much time. It's and AWD 1996 Astro and they have to come out the bottom. I just spent a mint fixing a load of other problems and now this. Not happy at all. A real downer, big...

I cannot get into the site the majority of the time. I wait and wait. If I do get in after many attempts getting to the forum selections is extremely difficult as well.

O2 Sensor

Seem there are 4 according to info on AutoZone if they are referring to my engine which is a 4.3 W. They don't have that designation.

O2 Sensor P0134 code, how many in the 96 Astro

I have a P0134 code and trying to figure out which one it refers to. Might be just due to carbon but I might have to replace it. I have got parts places response anywhere from of 2-4 sensors (seems they don't know). If I need to replace this then which one is it. Anyone come across a vacumn line dia...

Vacum Lines

Well I just had my doghouse off yesterday. I haven't had it off for a few years. Some major work done by mechanic and they worked under there. Well I could not believe how cramped it was. One repair I had done was head gaskets since the pastic ones GM put in a prone to leaking by the A/C compressor ...

Re: knock, knock, ping, ping.

A carbon deposit that is glowing red will ignite the fuel out of sequence. A cure that I've used is to dribble some water into the intake manifold while the engine is running. The combustion temperatures will turn the water into super heated steam and it will clean out the deposites. Ahh you're tal...

Busy Guy!!

Looks like quite the undertaking. Those sensor in the gromets. Are the sensors just with the gromet (I don't know what they look like). I doubt they are intended to touch the core and not much of an air gap there either from what I am imaging.

Great, Hope I did not start something

The links to the pic's are good. One is a car and the other an earlier model. Getting at the positive is not easy with is facing back. I'll focus on the ground first and do those two and see what happens. That stud is short and soft. Got to be careful not to twist it off!!! You'll have words and no ...

NEW GROUND and/or + Wiring

I have read that these as well as other vehicles benefit from addtional or replacement ground runs and some are replacing adding a 12V + run to the battery. I have looked at my 96 and ground from the Alternator is not easy. If I pull that big long bolt (bottom left from the front view) the alternato...

Subjet to Interpretation

This is not the first time I have looked at OEM Label spec's on the vehicle or as presented above. Two things have always puzzled me in what the manufacture says it does or can handle. 1) In reference to the following for quick reference although slightly different from my 96 AWD Passenger Van. &quo...

Re: Fixed

I replace the front washer pump (from a 94 astro at the wreckers) which looked the same. All is well not pump motor assembly required.
