Re: Dutch doors grrrrrr ...
Well - I replaced the solenoid ... unfortunately, it didn't solved the "problemo" I think the button is the culprit and it looks like it isn't a "do it yourself" kinda thing to fix . . . :-s I just wonder how much $$$ the stealership will charge me to fix it! Before you bu...

Re: Tramper Build data request
I would highly recommend that you get your new motor 'dialed-in' and running well, with a few thousand miles under its belt first. Before adding a 17k + lb slug to tow..... Agreed and indented... I suspect it will take me a couple months to wrap up the interior once I finish the motor, and probably...

Re: Tramper Build data request
Pay no attention to my rubber ramblings, they are really of no consequence to this thread. I am aware of the traction differential of on vs. off-road tires. I was just attempting (very poorly) to engage in witless banter. :dunce: So be it... I am working on getting the van fired up... I just keep co...

Re: Tramper Build data request
Ok, I will give you that your tires are bigger, and wider, and you might even have better traction when it's wet and slippery such the common scenario in Canada. BUT, down here in Texas where it is hot, and the roads are (for the most part) very well maintained, things are a bit different. I think y...

Re: Ideal A/C compressor RPM
Yea, I will run it off big A/C power, or my jumbo Honda Genny. It has 2 15amp 115VAC breakers and has run everything I have thrown at it yet. But 99% of my power source would be from grid power. But that does bring up that I need to plan on building a small 115AC -> 12V DC power converter.... Or may...

Re: Tramper Build data request
Thanks for looking into the Tramper details. I think it would help. After doing some more number crunching and a few changed in my build for reliablity, I am probably only going to be putting something like 350-375 to the rear wheels. But with rolling back some of the HP build features I can have be...

Re: Ideal A/C compressor RPM
You are right on the A/C motor, I don't know why I was thinking it was 13XX... I was hoping to go with direct drive, good to hear they are running about 1:1 to the engine. And a 1/2 hp motor will be easy to come by, and it will be quite. I am not 100% that I will go this route on the design, but it ...

Thanks for the pic.
I may do something similar and hide it behind some kind of door, but I would rather replace it all together. I will keep looking.....

Re: Biting off more than you can/should chew
Yea, well, tis too late. That's ok, it was all extra weight anyway. I knew the Airbag/Cruise would work, and I will probably keep cruise, we will see. But I was fairly sure the ABS wouldn't work because of the different signal types from the ECM. Apparently there is some level of communication betwe...

Re: Humpty Dumpty Engine swap
Good luck with the swap. Be warned, once you do the swap with the V6 you may catch the V8 bug!

Re: Ideal A/C compressor RPM
Yea, I thought of looking at the belt system on a stock Astro, but I don't have one to look at! I was hoping someone out there may know, or be able to go look. ;) Thanks, that gives me a place to start. I will need to gear up a "standard" A/C motor to hit the ideal. Most A/C motors spin at...

Ideal A/C compressor RPM
Hey, Does anyone know the ideal RPM for the A/C compressor equipped in our vans? The reason I ask is.... I am thinking of building a Tramper (but cooler), and using the installed rear A/C in the van back. So then it would be just a matter of mounting an evaporator and fan under the van body, then co...

Tramper Build data request
Yo Peter, I am thinking about building a Tramper like trailer for my Astro. Mine of course would have a 3" drop, be black, and have aerodynamic superiority over the current Tramper design. :yawinkle: Would you be kind enough to post up (or link me to) some pictures of your Tramper build? I am w...

Re: Biting off more than you can/should chew
I have been, in a greater and lesser capacity, logging my progress. I threw up a image gallery with a bunch of images, most not labeled, that you can take a look at. I will take some more photo's of the work I am doing now in case it can help anyone in the future. http://www.xephius.com/?page_id=73 ...

Re: Biting off more than you can/should chew
Since everyone has obviously been waiting on pins and needles for an update, I thought I would do just that. So I disconnected everything inside and out, then labeled where the connectors went. (That was a very important step!) then unbolted the firewall plate where the bundle passes through next to...
