Re: Factory V8 Safari ???
Hey locdoc, I've never been a camera person & even when I carried one I'd forget to use it. My "rare" G10 is being detailed & when I pick it up next week, I'll see if I can find a camera & take a few photos. I still really like & appreciate Astros & Safaris, but my 1st ...

Re: Factory V8 Safari ???
A few days after checking out this Safari, I finally decided I wanted it & headed down to buy it! It wasn't in the driveway when I arrived, but Kevin, the nephew selling it, came out of the house & greeted me! He said another interested party had taken it to their mechanic to look it over &a...

Factory V8 Safari ???
First of all, sorry, no photos! I stopped to look at a 1986 GMC Safari "for sale" yesterday & was quite surprised to find a 305 cid V8 in it. Everything looks factory & even the sticker/emissions tag looks to be correct! I looked under it & thru the open hood & I swear it c...

Re: Whats the most miles you've had or seen on a Astro/Safari
My neighbor recently bought a 97 Astro AWD with 487,000 original miles! Only one person drove it all those miles & other than a several tuneups & regular maintenance, nothing has failed or been replaced!!! He paid $1500.00 for it & the body & interior look great!!! It even has a new ...

Re: Problem Update
Well... my buddy & I didn't touch his 98 Astro AWD w/ "W" engine for several months. We started it the other day & had to give it a shot of starting fluid to get it to start & run. With the engine cover off, it idled & ran great & we drove it about 50 miles! Got back to...

Re: Anyone tried fuel pump repair kit rather than complete pump?
I bought a "fuel pump repair kit" off Ebay for the Astro for $25.00 + 6.50 ship = $31.50. The name of the place wasn't "Global Auto", so I was a bit concerned, until it arrived... it was from Global Auto!!! Now I need to find an inexpensive ICM "ignition control module"...

Re: Replaced Fuel Pump / TPS Etc.
We've checked the distributor gear, even though it was replaced about 20,000 miles ago & it looked great. We've also checked the EGR & it is working properly & it is also fairly clean. It was replaced about 10,000 miles ago. Still no codes! After letting it cool down yesterday afternoon...

Re: Replaced Fuel Pump / TPS Etc. UPDATE
98 Astro AWD 4.3 "W" Even though we had already changed them, with the possibility that the new ones were bad, we we went ahead & swapped the temp sensor by the thermostat housing & the temp gauge sender in the left head. NOTHING CHANGED... it still runs great when cold & even...

Re: Replaced Fuel Pump / TPS Etc.
OK... we're using an INNOVA scan tool & some other expensive one that another neighbor loaned us. Both show the same info & ALL parameters etc., etc. show to be within specified limits. Since he changed the O2 sensor that threw a code & said it wasn't working, there have not been anymor...

Replaced Fuel Pump / TPS Etc.
OK... my buddy & I replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter (though it was new & only had 25 miles on it) & TPS on his 98 Astro AWD 4.3 "W". (See TPS Symptoms post) The new fuel pump, fuel filter & TPS were purchased at the local Chevy dealer. After replacement, the fuel pressu...

Re: TPS (throttle position sensor) Symptoms
OK... here's an update on my buddy's 98 Astro AWD 4.3 "W"... a couple days ago, he changed the oil & filter & discovered a small leak at the adapter the oil cooler lines come off between the block & filter. He changed the fuel filter, which had about 20,000 miles/18 months on ...

Re: Dam emissions
If warming the catalytic converter up real well doesn't work, there's a good chance you need a new "cat". Another buddy's 96 Astro AWD's smog test showed HCs were about 25-30 ppm's too high & a new converter cleaned it up so well, that the smog tech was amazed at how low the HCs dropp...
