Re: Residential wiring advice

Thanks to all for the advice. After having my buddy look at it we determined that my master plan is a no-go. I have since re-installed my old (working) portable unit and I will return the new one. As for the other room we were hoping to cool, I have tinted the window facing the hill and installed a ...

Re: Residential wiring advice

Thanks for the advice and suggestions so far guys. It sounds like what I need to do is have someone who knows what they are looking at come over and help me make sense of what I have. I don't know too much about electrical so it is probably best to not mess with it. Luckily I carpool with a guy who ...

Residential wiring advice

Hello all. I am trying to put in a new air conditioner in my apartment. I have been running an 8000btu portable a/c since I moved in with no problems. When the compressor kicks on it dims the lights in the room for a split second but other than that it works great. I recently won a gift certificate ...

Re: Tilt steering column broken in 88

OK guys, thanks a lot for the info. I found a column in Olympia that should work...now its just a matter of getting it. I think I will pull out the old one in a couple days so I can bring it to match up to whatever one I find.

Tilt steering column broken in 88

So, I am in the process of making my respective vehicles ready to drive before I get my license back in July. I have a few things left to do on my pickup and a couple left on the van. The biggest issue on the van right now is the steering column. When I bought the van the previous owner said she had...

Re: Funny how life repeats itself

,,,let me know when you're ready for a V-8 Funny you should mention. I found myself sitting in the van the other night contemplating this very thing. I do have some limited funds available that I WAS planning on spending on the vehicle that currently resides in the Henry Ford section of the garage ...

Re: Funny how life repeats itself

So, I had an eventful day. I decided to make the best of the first weekend I have had off in some time. My Brother/roommate wanted to drive the van so we went out for a nice lunch at the local Irish pub and then made a detour to the local tribal casino to take some pics of the van on top of the park...

The 88

Thought I would post a few pics of my new van. It is an 88 Astro shorty 4.3/auto passenger van I just picked up in Seattle for 800USD. She has just shy of 137K miles and seems to run like a top. The van has a g80 locking 3.42 rear, ac, cruise, 4 bucket seats (though the middle 2 are MIA) and the rea...

Re: Funny how life repeats itself

Wow, thanks for all the replies guys! I have always thought that it is hard to find a better group of people than the Astro/Safari crowd. I was sitting out in the van last night giving it a thorough looking over. This old van brings back a ton of memories. I learned to drive, lost my virginity, got ...

Funny how life repeats itself

Hello van people. I sit here in front of my computer at 6:30am in the great state of Washington reflecting on the past 10 years of my life. fond memories of a simpler time and a simpler forum running through my head. Through some strange twists of fate and due to many circumstances both of and beyon...

Re: trivia

All good guesses and pretty close too. Ovrheated due to large hill and load, old radiator cap didn't vent, top seem on radiator cracked and dumped massive coolant. Trans cooler was no longer effective due to lack of fluid in radiator and (very quickly) built lots of heat in transmission causing flui...

IF ones 1978 Ford F-150 overheated on the freeway and one pulled over (immediately) and found a LARGE pool of ATF AND a LARGE pool of anti-freeze on the ground, whats the cause? Clue:when it cooled off and was topped off with water and transmission fluid it ran and shifted perfectly and didn't leak ...

Re: Keep on truckin-80s music for the soul

Some very good choices. I listen to pretty much every genre of music but yesterday I was all about the crappiest 80s stuff I could find. It made my day. Today I think I am going country (I am from the woods after all). Plus it seems fitting....my dog died my truck died and the man is trying to get m...

Keep on truckin-80s music for the soul

Life doesn't always work out the way we want it to. Our friends and family irritate us, get sick or pass away. Our dogs do the same sometimes. Work isn't always (ever?) a fun place to be. People don't always get along. The sun doesn't always shine when we want it to. The car isn't invincible. Schedu...
