You are right! We saw those sites many years ago on the old forum actually. It is posted here in this forum somewhere else also. Lots of good info there to help people though! :supz:

Re: Tran project- V8 stroker

I have run quite a few different aftermarket heads on strokers. You would not be dissapointed if you used the E-200 heads from Edelbrock on your new combination. These heads flowed better and made more hp than their RPM series. If you are planing on towing a trailer I would skip installing aluminum ...

Re: Tran project- V8 stroker

Now it is starting to shape up! Isn't it fun building engines with all those fancy new parts! That new crank sure makes it a lot easier (and better) to build a stroker engine than using an old 400 crank (if you had the old style block). Take your time so you know that everything is setup the way you...

Re: Tran project- V8 stroker

Check out this link for a buildup using GM Bowtie Vortec Performance heads. http://www.superchevy.com/technical/engines_drivetrain/cams_heads_valvetrain/0511sc_vortec/index.html I used these heads for one of my last combinations. I installed different springs and retainers from Comp Cams as the stoc...

Re: Tran project- V8 stroker

I would get either a new style head or and old style head and not worry about a dual bolt pattern head. I have had the most fun with Vortec style heads (stock, GM performance and Edlebrock). I have run the Edlebrock 200cc Etec heads and they flowed better than any other head I have ever used. I have...

Re: Tran project- V8 stroker

Good to hear that your block checked out. How are you progressing with your project? Are you going to build your engine your self? Make sure that you install your bottom end in one session so you are certain that every cylinder is assembled correctly...ie that your ring positions and end gaps are al...

Re: The first diesel Astro conversion??.

I almost did a GM V8 turbo diesel swap. It would have been what I would consider an advanced swap as it would have required a lot of fabrication. If I would have gone through with it I would have had 1 ton "guts" (axles, engine, trany and t-case) under the Astro. I do believe that it would...

Re: The first diesel Astro conversion??.

the problem with most of the Isuzu motors is that the Turbo is usually on the drivers side, and will not fit because of the brake booster... It could be modded but would be alot of work... but a Hino 3.4L Turbo Diesel would fit like a glove... but I can not put a toyota motor in a chevy anymore tha...

Re: Tran project- V8 stroker

That sucks! Who sold you the broken block? I would not bother repairing it if you want more hp than stock. I would look for a 4 bolt roller cam block if you want to start hotrodding it. Vortec heads are a good start as long as you do not go too wild with the cam. If you want to run a high lift cam t...

Re: 96' 383 build

Good grief, here is a guy driving around in a stroker power plant that will turn 5500rpm in neutral without hurting anything. What are the odds he will do anything worse to it on the road? Idealy he would be able to fix it but this is a time of year in Ohio that driving something that seems to be w...

Re: 96' 383 build

my dads a gm master tech here in 2 weeks if all goes well he will be on of around 1300 people to be world class technician and he was telling vance you have thousandths of inches of clearance normally so yes its tight but all motors are, vance has had to hit the rev limiter 3 times to learn the vcm...

Re: 96' 383 build

I understand your frustration. It is a lot of extra work to repair this problem. If it were mine I would repair the problem before it grenades. It could be only 1/1000th of an inch away from blowing up...as your engine wears and carbon builds up on the piston tops those clearances will become even m...

Re: 96' 383 build

I would just pull the engine and get it onto a stand to work on. Then you will know that the engine is assembled correctly (rings in the correct position ect ect). I do not believe that you will be able to just rotate the pistons. Also you may run into problems half way through your proceedure and h...

Re: 96' 383 build

Lots of good info here on engine building! The bottom line is that the valve reliefs are there for a reason. I see that you are running a GM performance cam...which would mean that you will probably have even less clearance than a stock cam. If it were my engine and I found out that the pistons were...

Re: 96' 383 build

The guys are correct. It looks like you should be tearing that engine down ASAP! The pistons are installed wrong. I can send you pics of some engines I have built if you need some more info. The only reason you have not had a problem is that you are running a very low lift camshaft. I would bet that...
