Re: Adjust Your Mirrors

I heard about this way of adjusting mirrors some time back and gave it a try. No thanks, way too disorienting for me-- I guess I just like seeing a bit of my vehicle in each mirror as a reference point. When I change lanes, or any time I want a bigger picture, I just lean forward slightly and then c...

Re: 1995 GMC Safari.. new to me

Good lookin' van, Grover. I like the look of the 2nd gen vans, especially the ones with the rectangular sealed beam headlights.

Re: Insurance with V8

I wouldn't say anything to them. If they tried to deny a claim, I'd sue them. Of course it would depend on why a claim was being made. Obviously if they can prove the engine swap contributed, then they are right to deny. But I would bet most claims that a person would have would be unrelated. And i...

Uh, Larry? You and I need to have a talk about 'rust.' I seem to remember seeing photos of the underside of your van and it looked like the day it came off of the assembly line to me...
Oh, if only rust didn't exist...

Re: Canadian Car Chase

The car being "chased" in that video is a dead ringer for my '82 Olds Delta 88--same color and all.
I nearly looked out of the window to see if my Olds was still in the driveway...

Re: Replacing leaky oil cooler lines

Warning: slight hijack of thread in progress. Dean, I checked out the Swagelok link you provided and was a bit surprised to see that the flare fitting is AN but that Swagelok calls it a 3/8ths instead of an AN-6. I realize that a -6 is actually saying that it's a 6/16th in AN speak, but nowhere on t...

No need to be sorry about that. At the rate I move on projects, I figure I'll have to come back from the dead to finish them.

Re: Transmission temperature sender question

Strange, I settled for monitoring the temperature of the transmission output side; that is, before the cooler. I figured that it was more important to see how high the temp of the ATF was getting than what it was after being cooled. But since a heat exchanger can only dump so much heat, it maybe doe...

Re: Transmission temperature sender question

I'd also be leery of using the transmission's temperature sensor--most importantly, I wouldn't want to affect an input to the van's PCM, but there's also the consideration of what value sensor the temperature gauge needs to read the transmission temp correctly. I think that using the gauge's correct...

Re: Block/Circulating Tank Heaters

Break, I've had Kat tank-type heaters on two of my previous vehicles, not on my Astro, though. In both cases the heaters worked well; starting either engine was a snap no matter how cold the weather was. In both cases, though, there wasn't instant heat from the vehicle's heater/defroster like I had ...

Now, that's intriguing...just like a 55, 56, and 57 Chevy. I wouldn't mind having the filler cap behind the driver's side tail light at all.
Rebel, here's another project for your van!

Re: Broken V6 crankshaft

Larry, No, that crank has nothing to do with me, I just had to get a photo and post it cuz I'd never seen one broken before and figured that you guys might not have, either. Like I mentioned, the owner of Bryan Engine had never seen a broken 4.3 crank before this one. I'm still working slowly on the...

I like the earthen backdrop contrasted nicely with the man made destruction, nice effect :supz: Keith, you got me laughing out loud with that reply. Larry, you made me continue with the laughter! All I know about this crank is that the guy who owned the van, which had high miles, was just out drivi...
