Re: Project Safari - LT1/T56
tawd77--- Did you get your van on the road? Did you figure out how far back the shifter would come through the floor? I still haven't measured carefully to see where the shifter will come through though it should be pretty close to the right location. I'm starting on my LT1/T56 switch next week. I'l...

Re: Project Safari - LT1/T56
Thanks for your reply, tawd77. I have the engine and transmission, ready to install, and the parts van from which I removed the subframe, and have just started acquiring other parts. I'll rebuild the front end and add some other handling-enhancing goods while I'm at it. I tried to attach some photos...

Re: Project Safari - LT1/T56
AMAZING coincidence, TAWD77--I'm putting an LT1/T56 combo in my Astro van right away as well! To my knowledge, your van and my van will be the first two vans which have received T56 transmissions. Do you know of any others? I've had my 1992 LT EXT for nearly 10 years now, with an L98 TPI V-8 and 700...

Re: check this out please -- STEERING BOX
DOES ANYBODY KNOW, for the record, if the 2WD 1985-1994 Astro has either the Series 600 or 800 box?
I was considering a Classic Performance Products steering box which fits 67-74 Camaro/Nova and 64-72 Chevelle, but nobody yet has been able to confirm it fits our 1st-gen 2WD vans.

Re: Shift it myself type of thing
Merlin, it's Jim in Florida. We talked about 6-speed Astro swaps back in the spring. I'm finally getting around to doing my swap. It will be an LT1 stroker, and I'll be going with the 6-speed T56 with of the alternate shifter locations toward the front. The Camaro/Firebird bellhousing, clutch and sl...

Re: Headers
I've got a follow-on question regarding headers. I'm about to upgrade my 1992 LT EXT from the L98 TPI 355 is has now to a LT1-based 396. The van had long-tube headers before from a 2d-gen Camaro, although I forgot the model number of the headers long ago. In any case, I want to upgrade to 1-3/4 inch...

Re: 6-speed
Thanks, Merlin, and Socalli V8, So I'll be boldly going where no (fool?) has gone before? I'm sure it will be a fun project, and a lot different from the original conversion to the L98 V8. That was back in 2000, and the cutting-edge intel then was how to get the TBI V8s to run off the TBI V6 compute...

6-speed
Hi; My Astro presently has an L98 TPI V-8 which I plan to upgrade to an LT1 stroker. Before that, I want to sort out the drive train. First, I want to install a 6-speed in the van. Questions: Has ANYBODY done a 6-speed yet? I was hoping to use the T56, but have no idea where the shfit lever would ne...

Re: Cheap Big Brakes
On the same subject, the thing that limits us to the OEM-diameter rotors is the presence of the two "ears" on the spindle, to which the disc caliper attaches. Does anybody make DROP SPINDLES that have a different mounting location for the calipers, allowing the use of larger-dia. rotors? I...
